National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has been active recently by warning people against text scammers. This month, I received messages a number of times from them.
Tons of text scammers are roaming around. In fact, I received a lot of messages from scammers before and I even reported them to NTC. I wonder what happened to those complaints, and unsure if they had taken action against those people. Sadly, some people still fall for the traps of scammers and was robbed off of their money by immediately believing in them.
One of the practices of some scammers is by sending messages that the person has mistakenly sent cellphone load. Then they will tell you to give it back by dialing amount and 11-digit number. The truth is they haven't sent cellphone load and if you did what the scammer said, then you will lose cellphone loads or expect a charge on your bill.
In some instances, scammers will tell you that you won cellphone load, and to claim the load, they will give you digits you need to dial. The truth is those digits will give their number cellphone loads that will come from you.
Do NTC taking action against these scammers? I don't want to accuse them but we heard nothing about any actions made. Likewise, they'll only warn you (a good thing though) but better with actions against these scammers.
Another issue I noticed is spam messages coming from people who are offering credit cards. Others are offering loans as well. Where do those people get our numbers? Looking back when my number is the same with my brother except the last digit, we both received the same messages. Is it possible that people working in telecom networks are sellung our numbers? Our numbers are our important data that needs to be secured, why are these things happening? NTC should do something against these practices.
