A step by step process of an oil painting of a yacht taken from a photograph I took while out sailing. This painting took approximately two months to complete as it had several glazez to bring it to completion. Main brushes used are synthetic brights and large fan brushes as well as the rigger brush for finer detail and a medium straight palette knife for the cables and foam and waves as well as reflections in the waves. Paint used is Micheal harding and mixed with linseed oil and glazes done with liquin light gel. I have included pictures showing the progression of the painting as it moves both forward and backward at times.
I started the painting by sketching the yacht and lines of interest and comosition in the sky and water. I then taped the boat off and worked the basic background in. Then painted the rough boat underpainting while working background elements in and brought the painting further and further forward with colour tones and details until finally working on glazes for the sky and water. The picture works well as the sky and water change colour depending on the light and time of day. I'm really happy with the result I got from glazing and the customer was delighted. Hope you enjoy the pictures and feel free to resteem etc. All I ask is that you respect my rights to any and all work and photographs I produce. Many thanks and I look forward to any comments and or questions etc.
