Germany was powered 22% by nuclear in 2010.
In 2020, it was 11%.
Plan is this year to phase that out entirely.
Right now, Germany’s electricity consumption.
27% wind
24% coal
12% nuclear
12% natural gas
10% solar
9.3% biomass
3.7% hydro
This makes a really good case for countries being able to go more renewable, but Germany price wise isn’t as strong.
Germany has an average cost of 32 cents per kilowatt hour.
The US by comparison averages 10.6 cents a kilowatt hour.
France, by comparison to Germany is 70% nuclear.
The rest of Europe averages about 20 cents a kilowatt.
The US in comparison is 20% nuclear and 60% natural gas and coal.
This is why we need nuclear as the key option in combatting fossil fuels.
France is the biggest clean energy economy in the world and the only European country which has energy costs that compare to the United States.
It’s also one of the only countries to embrace nuclear.
Germany cut down nuclear, making an effort to leave it and has just increased coal demands, while creating one of the highest electricity prices in all of the world.
Not to mention, this is causing issues with the Ukraine, where Germany is more dependent on Russia for energy.
At this point, I really am putting the anti nuclear people with the anti vaxxers and climate change deniers.
