Abandoned Nuclear Bunker in Doncaster

I'd never really thought about nuclear shelters near where I lived, but deep down I think I'd always been curious about them and given the opportunity, I'd jump at the chance of visiting one. I'd probably even stretch to the purchase of one if the price was right!

I've recently went on a walk with the local Rambling association and part of the route included a stop at an abandoned nuclear bunker, I couldn't believe that it was literally on my door step! Add to this, it's actually for sale!!! After some googling later and seeing the over inflated price I decided that this one wasn't for me. Its a shame, as I really could see me owning this and using it as a private getaway! But at £55,000.00, it really isn't worth the money.

So I had a quick look around the surface stuff, I'd have been down the ladder if the hatch hadn't been welded shut. I later found some 'then' and 'now' photos and it was a lot smaller than I assumed it would be. For the advertised price, I expected it to be much larger!

These are how it originally looked:

Sadly some people can't be respectful and wreck everything. This is it now:

My understanding is that it has also partially flooded. As you can see, there is not a lot for £55,000.00. If this were for sale in the sub £5000.00 range then Id be trying to arrange an official visit and would probably invest some money in it.

As well as a private retreat / man cave, I'd also be tempted to get it done up and rent it out as a 'Writers Retreat' or get it hired out as an 'Apocalypse Experience', as in get people renting it for a week and living the survivalist lifestyle or similar.

I'm still going to keep my eye out now for similar bunkers for sale locally, as I'm sure there are others. Depending on the facilities they have, I may still yet look to purchase one.

Love the history! Thank you so much for sharing, very interesting.

Thank you for reading it.

Does the £55k include the land above it or is it literally just for the box in the ground?

It includes the land, but its probably about 30 foot square at the most. Its postage stamp sized.

You are completely correct then it is really over inflated. It would be really cool to own one, do it up and turn it into a man cave though.

I went in this one once http://www.secretbunker.co.uk a lot bigger than this one, was really cool inside.

I've seen this page appear when I was trying to find out about this bunker. It looks like a decent place to visit. I might have to put it on the list!

One of these might make a very cool studio for writing, art, or music. Having a destination that's secluded can be great for psyching oneself up to create.

My thoughts exactly, having the opportunity to retreat from the world when you want to.

I was thinking 'writers retreat'
