My Life as a Nurse

in nursing •  7 years ago

At the early age of 7 I had a calling to become a nurse when I grew up. I grew up in the Philippines as a missionary kid and admired 2 ladies who were missionaries and also nurses and I wanted to help people just like they were helping people.

Many years later I did fulfill my dream of becoming a nurse. Most of my nursing career has been spent working in geriatrics. I enjoy working with the older population and they have taught me many lessons thruout the years of my career which has been 32 years so far. Geriatric patients are similar to pediatric patients in many ways because they cannot always tell you in words what is bothering them so then you have to try to figure out where they are hurting physically or emotionally .

I tell younger workers who I mentor not to go into nursing lightly. I believe one should have a real calling from God to venture into a nursing career. Nursing is not an easy career path but it can be very rewarding in many ways.
