Here is a very short (2 minute) video of author and environmentalist, Denis Hayes, setting the background for his new book Cowed: The Hidden Impact of 93 Million Cows on America’s Health, Economy, Politics, Culture and Environment (coauthor is Gail Boyer Hayes).

Although very aware of the negative impact upon the environment and human health by the changes that have occurred in the US beef industry, they also realize that this is due to the relatively new practice (past 50 years) of confined animal feeding operations (CAFO).

The goal of the book is not to convince people to give up their beef- eating habits, but to decrease it by about 50% and to insist upon buying and eating only properly raised, grass-fed beef… better for human health, cow health, and the environment.
