In this post I will be doing a comparison between a 1080 mining rig and two 1060 mining rigs. I will be comparing the rigs using several different algorithms, which should cover most all GPU cryptocurrenies that can be mined. What I will show is the cost per hashrate and total hashrate per price of each.
I will assume the following pricing below for the mining rig being used, and use current average pricing found on amazon. You should be able to find better pricing on ebay, but those can vary day to day, so I will just stick with typical Amazon prices. For the 1080 rig I substituted in a 1600 watt power supply for $188, to deal with all the extra power needed.
Next I assumed Amazon pricing of the following for the cards and total rig cost. The 1080 rig consists of 6 cards, while the 1060 consists of two complete 6 card rigs.
As you can see, it is cheaper to buy two complete 1060 rigs than it is to buy one 1080 rig. But which will mine more. As it turns out, it depends on the coin or algorithm you are mining. Lets see how they compare.
If you are mining CryptoNight (ETN, XMR, SumoKoin) or Ethash (Ethereum, MusicCoin, EXP), two 1060 rigs will out perform a 1080 rig for less money. If you are mining any of the other algorithms or coins, a 1080 rig is the better performer.
Hope this helps when building your next rig.
