The Brooklyn Takeover - a @DOUGKARR and @XTRODINARYPILOT production (@hardfork-series image was not harmed in the making of this film)

in nyc •  7 years ago

This was filmed live on location at the Williambsburg pier.

Scene 1

When we arrived in NYC, the first thing we had to do was find a place to park our Chevy Suburban at a rate of $100/day. The next step was to decide where to meet the mysterious @DougKarr. He suggested Gotan in Williamsburg. In order to do this we had to acquire these here MetroCards

I put $75 on each card just to be safe. We actually required assistance with purchasing these because the machine would only take cash. I had to go to a service window to do this. According to Google Maps, I headed to the 50th street subway station and took the C-train from Hell's Kitchen to the 14th street station. Then we walked to the L-Train and rode all the way to the Bedford Ave station. In about 10 minutes, we arrived at Gotan. Gotan is a small, hip coffee shop. It is by no means familty friendly. Every table is set for 2. My family of 6 had to innovative (we just kept standing). @dougkarr +2 minnie Doug Karr's arrived. We ate, drank coffee, and got acquainted...

Scene 2

Next scene takes place at the Williamsburg pier. We reluctantly inched our way toward the pier. Although unspoken, I believe @xtdnrymomprenuer, @dougkarr, and myself (@xtrodinarypilot) didn't want any of our kids to be the first to fall over the edge. After much conversation, we someone found ourselves at the end of the pier. We spotted several kids there doing some outlandish stunts FOR THE GRAM. You will notice the young lady in the video that has the bubble gun. She and her crew was photographing one another doing backflips off of the rail on the to pier. Unfortunately, we didn't get any footage for Tosh.0 or Ridiculousness. The same lady is responsible for our group photo as well. If you take notice, our kids took a few shots at being photographers. If you look even closer, you will that @dougkarr is sporting and anchor on his shirt while @xtrodinarypilot has carabiners.

Scene 3 (deleted scene)

Remember those $75 MetroCards I purchase? They do not work on the NYC Ferry System. @DougKarr offered us 2 tickets for the @xtdnrymomprenuer and @xtrodinarypilot to ride and the kids should have been able to ride for free. We were on a very short time budget so we rushed to the gate. When my oldest son @despool was denied access due to his height, the ferry worker attempted to slam the gate and it knocked my 3 year old to the ground. The Texan in me wanted to give him some work, put them hands on him, whoop his ass, light him up, and all that. I was so shocked, I didn't have words. Needless to say, we were able to get the tickets and head to DUMBO.

This is amazing! I'll be revisiting this video in a couple years to reminisce on what all our kids looked like back then. What a fun hang! Next time in Texas!!

Absolutely. Definitely a moment to remember because they grow up so fast.

If that next time is in the spring, then count me in! I have two girl-friends, sisters, who live there- a couple of the most fun chics on the planet- and I'm heading down to see them and visit the Garden of Eden (home to @everlove and @quinneaker) :)

That was so much fun to watch, I love the bubbles!

If it was the Texan in you that wanted to whoop him, then New Yorkers are a whole lot like Texans, or maybe it's just moms because I want to whoop him just reading about it! Knocking a three year old to the ground, grrr!

You are so right, its the mom on me 😉. To be honest, New Yorkers were overwhelmingly nice and its quite likely NY will be in contention when we relocate.

We're pretty good people I have to say, haha! I was born on Long Island, about forty five minutes from the city, but my family relocated upstate-near Ithaca- when I was ten. I love visiting the Island and the city, but I have to say I prefer living where we are, right along the Finger Lakes Wine Trail (which now has a handful of awesome breweries and a couple distilleries and cideries as well) sandwiched between two giant, beautiful lakes, with waterfalls and gorges everywhere- far fewer buildings and people ;)

My parents have lakefront property (the post I put up yesterday is of their beach) and the only downside are the winters which tend to be looong. It's not the snow that bothers me- there are plenty of snowmobiling trails and great places to ski- it's the seemingly perpetual grey and gloomy skies. The days we do get blue skies and sun, particularly right after a snowfall, is pure magic :)

looks like a great time :)

it certainly was!
