Kardashians for nerds.

I think I'm finding people's reactions to the whole OpenAI drama more interesting than what's actually going on. For myself, I figure I'll just wait until it all resolves itself and then find out what happened afterwards. I mean, what use is speculating? It's not like I work there. What happens there will impact us eventually - sooner than for most people, of course, but it won't actually make a difference for a little while at least.

But there are a ton of people on social media who seem to feel it's really important to speculate about the reasons and what happens next, and then argue back and forth again and again, round and round in circles.

My best guess is that people find this entertaining rather than actually important, in the same way that people apparently find drama shows and politics exciting and entertaining. (I don't usually find either one of those entertaining.) As I saw someone on Twitter put it, "it's like the Kardashians for nerds."

Is that really all it is?
