Jan E. Magdefrau passed away in her sleep at home on Thursday, July 2, from complications of diabetes for 35 years. Jan E. Magdefrau was born in Marengo, Iowa, on July 19, 1962, to Don and Frances (Backes) Magdefrau. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1980 and received a degree in accounting from Iowa State University in 1984. She worked at Belle Plaine Motor Supply Warehouse. After college, she moved to Ankeny, working at the Best Western and the Ankeny Country Club as a bookkeeper, before moving back to Belle Plaine because of health issues. Jan was an avid fan of the Iowa State University Cyclones. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine. Jan is survived by her parents, Don and Frances Magdefrau, Belle Plaine; a brother, Jim, Van Horne; and sisters Joni (Rod) Muench, Omaha, Nebraska, and Julie (Gary) Thompson, Van Horne. She is also survived by nephews Wes Thompson, Andrew Muench, Austin Muench, Reese Thompson; nieces Allison Muench and Emily Thompson, and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine where there will be a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Survivors include her husband, Chester Fred Fredericks; children, Paul (Connie) Fredericks, Mike (Kathy) Fredericks, Sue Martin and Cindy (Ray) Tessmer; brother, Joe Stamm; her 10 beloved grandchildren, Marcus, Steve, Anya, Alisa, Sara, Erica, Amanda, Gina, Aaron and Allison; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant son, Mark. Marguerite Peg Fredericks was born Oct. 4, 1923, in Chicago to Joseph and Henrietta Stamm. She grew up in the Pullman District on the citys southeast side during the Depression. She met her future husband, Fred, before World War II and waited for him to complete his military service. They married on Oct. 12, 1946. Before dedicating her life to taking care of her husband and their four children, she worked as an executive secretary to Chicago real estate developer Arthur Rubloff for seven years. After Freds retirement in 1998, they moved to Belle Plaine. She was a member of St. Michaels Church and loved the friendliness of the parish and the community. Peg was the nucleus of the Fredericks family and will be deeply missed. She never forgot anyones birthday or anniversary and she provided unconditional love and support to all. Peg was selfless and dedicated to taking care of her loved ones, even when she herself was sick. People were touched by her warm and outgoing personality and she formed long-lasting friendships wherever she went. She fought and conquered cancer three times in the last 15 years and survived endless rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, but her heart was weakened and tired and she faced the end with quiet dignity and strength. Linda Parizek: On October 22, 2009, as God called Linda L. Parizeks name, our angel entered into eternal rest, a place prepared just for her. Linda lost her brave battle with cancer at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, surrounded by family and a lot of love. Linda was very proud of achieving her GED later in life. Although she worked in several different jobs, her most recent employer was Lennox, Inc. in Marshalltown. Linda married Dennis Parizek, Sr. on June 25, 1960. They recently celebrated 49 years together. She is survived by her husband Dennis; six children Gloria (Chet) Wendt of Traer, Dennis, Jr. (Lynn) Parizek of Belle Plaine, Theresa (Ron) Stivers of Coralville, Cindy (Mike) Dunning of Toledo, Sarah Homrighausen of Tama, and Dallas Parizek of Chelsea. Her 14 grandchildren include Kristin and Frank (Katie) Wendt, Jason (Amber), Tony (Joni), and Kyle (Ashley) Parizek, Jennifer and Robbie Stivers, Brandon and Boston Dunning, Elysia, Mariah and Kacie Homrighausen, Marissa and Makenzie Parizek. She was a Great-grandma to seven: Arianna, Ava, Alivia, Kylie, Kadence, Landon and Larkin. Also surviving are her sister Rose Pfeifle and a brother Bill (Sally) Bartosh. She was preceded in death by her parents. Family and faith were extremely important to her. She loved to joke around with us even in her final days, but now they are some of the many memories we cherish. She always enjoyed being a mother and raising her children. There are many memories of family gatherings, volleyball and softball games, roller skating, dancing, playing cards, gardening, and making after school treats. She shared her deep faith with all and we are assured we will meet her again when God calls each of us by name. Linda was dearly loved and will be missed by all. George H. Votrobeck, 81, of Elberon died Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his home following a short illness. Services will be 10:30 Wednesday at the Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine by Rev Norman Bennett. Burial will be in the Irving Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. George H. Votrobeck was born on a farm west of Clutier, IA on July 6, 1928, the third child born to Charles and Emily (Adamek) Votrobeck. He attended Carroll No. 3 School until 4th grade in 1938. When the family moved to the farm northwest of Elberon, he attended Waltham School through the eighth grade, then spending the next four years at Elberon High School, where he graduated in 1946. On August 25, 1947 George married Lorayne Nebendahl, daughter of Emil and Alberta (Letch) Nebendahl at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They lived south of Elberon one year and then moved to the farm northwest of Elberon. It was with this move that George and Lorayne decided this would be their home for raising their five children and the home in which he would leave this life on earth. On this farm, George farmed the land, raised livestock, and used his skills as a carpenter, welder, repairer, and inventor. His inventions had what were known by family as a Bohemie Patent. Lavanda H. Wiese was born July 30, 1912 to Louis and Anna (Mussman) Wiese at Keystone. She graduated from school in Keystone and attended the Iowa State Teachers Col- lege in Cedar Falls. Lavanda taught country school in the Keystone area for nine years. Later she worked as a book- keeper for Burrows Publishing Company and Graham Ser- vices, retiring in 2002. Lavanda was united in marriage to Fred L.S. Grantham on May 21, 1939 at the Congregational Church parsonage in Belle Plaine. He preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 1995. Lavanda was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, the O.E.S. and the American Legion Auxil- iary in Belle Plaine. In her leisure she enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge. Lavanda is survived by her son, John (Fran) Grantham of Siren, Wis.; her daughter-in-law, Marva Grantham of Marion; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one step grandchild; five step great-grandchildren and her sister, Audrey Olson of Vinton.
