New precious metals exchange rates oracle

There is a new precious metals oracle which posts the prices of gold and silver to the distributed Obyte ledger. This means you can take trade long or short positions on the price of gold or silver against popular government currencies such as the US dollar, Euro and Japanese Yen.

For example you could make a trade where you profit if the price of gold falls vs the Euro, or the price of silver rises vs the Japanese Yen. Such trades are available using the current financial system but they carry additional risks besides the price, including giving your money to intermediaries and hoping they act honestly.

To use the new precious metal exchange rates oracle you need to find a peer (someone to take the other side of your prediction) and pair your devices. Once Autonomous Agents are released on the mainnet the oracle will be more useful, as you will be able to make predictions without finding a peer yourself.

4th independent witness vote

We have had good community involvement in the ongoing vote to decide who the next independent witness will be, and the vote is very close! So far Obbies have voted with around 26 Terabytes of wallet balance, and the current standings are as follows:

  • PolloPollo - 10 810 Gigabytes
  • Bind Creative - 9 734 Gigabytes
  • Raivo Malter - 5 842 Gigabytes
  • none of them - 28 Gigabytes

The poll will close soon so please vote as soon as possible. Votes are based on balances held by the wallet that casts the vote, like shareholding voting in a public company. The candidate that receives the most votes, i.e. the greatest balance in GBYTE will win the poll. See this 21 second video on how to vote if you need help.

LuckBytes returns

LuckBytes, the provably fair lottery you can play from inside your Obyte wallet has returned, and this time with more languages. English, Chinese, Japanese, German, Russian are all now available. Select your preference inside the Bot, which you can add from Obyte wallet Bot Store.

How does LuckyBytes compare to the wildly popular government run lotteries? With government lotteries the odds can be awful and the payout % low, e.g. the U.K. government lottery only pays 50% of revenue as prizes. With LuckyBytes 100% of the pot is paid out in prizes, with only around 1% of ticket sales being kept to fund running costs.

Tip: turn on autoplay so you are automatically entered into new games instead of manually entering each time. This short video covers the basics.

Developer?

The Obyte platform (written in familiar Node.js) is easy to develop for using simple yet powerful Lego-like building blocks of code. Learn more on the developer website or take the interactive developer quiz.
