After many years of collected adventures in the occult, I can say this, hauntings, demonic possessions and the like are not like what you see on the telly. Sometimes in life it's the little things that keep you up a night, not the Ouija board spelling out Satan (although that did happen to some friends and I once). It's the bump in the night that your brain can't conceive. It's the voice in the darkness when noone is home. Is it just the voices in your head? As a child I was haunted by a ghost. Not of the American Horror Story variety either. Nope, I never saw this guy...just heard him, or her.
I should probably mention at this point that I grew up next to a haunted estate on haunted property on top of underground springs (yup water is a conductor of spiritual energy). It's like a triple whammy. You always think that you are not going to be one of the stories, until you are. I have actually been those kind of stories and not always of the occult type either. As a child the ghost would climb up the stairs. It never got to the top, but the anticipation of waiting for it to get there, accompanied by my parents reluctance to believe me made it almost unbearable for a 6/7 year old child to bear. Um, funny story, I found out like last month that my mom heard it too, she just didn't feel like dealing with it (her words, not mine). I'm about to turn 38 for those of you who would like to know.
This was so bad that I turned the radio on to drown out the noise and didn't turn it off until I was 30, yeah that's how bad it was. My father didn't say much about it, I asked him about it and he feigned ignorance, the same kind he feigned when he witnessed his grandfather and other family members involved in a magical ritual to heal his aunt. Yep, my father's family is knee deep in the occult. I find this rather interesting because his father was a preacher...and somewhat of a maniac according to stories gathered.
At one time I thought that my house was a portal because I actually did see ghosts in it. 3 to be exact. Late night peripheral view. It was so bad that I did what any sane young adult would do. What's that , you ask? Why pull the blanket up over my head and pray to whoever was listening that they would go away. You guys might be laughing, but it actually worked. True story. It doesn't work though on ghosts who are out to hurt you, alien or demons. Just a disclaimer here.
Some years later, my childhood ghost came back, unfortunately for it, I had spent decades studying the occult and got some allies to help me out. I would say that my house is considerably more haunted now from the altars, spirit vessels and like that I keep. They even helped me out with a demonic possession of someone very close to me. Yeah, those aren't what people think either. More on that later. If your house is going to be haunted, at least fill it with spirits that you don't mind being around.
I found out from a medium friend of mine that the ghost was an ancestral curse of some kind and since the original person of course died and it's vengeance wasn't fulfilled, it decided to haunted me for some years (yes it was years). Some people bear the shame of their forefathers, others bear the burden. Isn't that how it always is though? Since a burden dropped in my lap, I had not option but to solve it. You either learn from your experiences or you repeat them and let me tell you from personal experience, you don't get a break in death. So don't go thinking that suicide or death from a deranged ex is going to help you because it won't. Well, maybe it helps some people, but they spat my ass right back here, so it didn't help me out any.
I'm done writing now, see you all later.
