Diguisit Waterfalls
On our way to the Diguisit Lighthouse, we passed by waterfalls along the road and one of these is the Diguisit Waterfalls. It's not that big and there is just a small pool where you can dip into but the water is cool and clear which makes it so refreshing. It's just across the road from the beach and a few minutes climb up. The waterfalls is easily accessible. This is highly recommended that you go to after coming from the beach to cool you from the hot sun and rinse yourself off of sand and saltwater. This completes your Diguisit Beach experience.
This landmark is visible from the road that's why you will not miss it.
Here are short clips I want to share:
While it is a short climb, it may not be an easy hike for the way going up is slippery. One misstep will surely hurt you for some of the rocks here have sharp edges. There is a sort of "trail" but that is steep and slippery as well. Extra caution is a must.
We did enjoy our few minutes here especially seeing the kids loved it.
While waiting for everyone to be ready to go, I took a few more shots of the beach. In this part of the beach, the breakwater is farther.
Ermita Hill and Healing Cross
A few minutes drive from Diguisit Beach is Ermita Hill.
This property was previously managed by the provincial government until it was turned over to the Aurora State College. There is a fee collected and this fund is used to help maintain the place but if you are a local of Aurora, then you are free of charge. Also, some of these collected fees are used for student assistance.
December 27, 1735 is a very significant part of the history of Baler. That night, a tsunami or what is called as "tromba marina" washed away the old town of Baler, obliterating in its wake any sign of life. In just an hour, the town was gone. One account by a missionary stated that he saw the convent being carried away by the sea. Those who survived were the ones who made it to Point Baja or Ermita Hill. There were only seven families who survived reportedly.
This cross stands as a memorial to that fateful night.
Of interest is that only the former town of Baler was struck by tromba marina. The other towns on that same shoreline was not harmed. Nobody knew about the tragedy until sometime later.
There as a small chapel erected here which serves as a viewpoint as well. Baler was used to be attacked by moros in the past even before the Spaniards came. In this hill, it is believed that there are lookouts for raiders. This raids must have been occurring all the time because a tunnel was dug by the locals as an escape route.
There are about 300 steps that goes up to the Ermita Cross. It is an enjoyable walk as these steps are built around the tall mahogany trees, mango trees and other plants which give shade.
One one side of the hill, you get a view of Diguisit Beach and the lighthouse. On the other side is this view and you can see Sabang Beach, Baler's surfing spot.
You can also check the gift shop center before exiting Ermita Hill. They have lots of colorful things from tiny keychains to bright and vivid colored shirts and hats, bags, wallets, etc.

I agree. It does pose risks if we are not careful.
Thanks for the suggestion. I did that on my latest post. I think I overdid though lol!

Wonderful photography you really captured the best of the waterfall and beach.
Such a sad tale of the tsunami- but how wonderful they still have a monument to this day to go our those that died and remember them.

Thanks @c0ff33a! I try :D
It is sad and interesting as well because it only destroyed that particular town. I did not know that can happen.
