The Nuytco Exo-Suit: Scuba Diving on Steroids

Are you fascinated by the ocean? But at the same time, it terrifies you? Do you have trouble clearing your ears on descent, and fear the bends? Dear friends, Nuytco has you covered. That's the company founded by deep sea exploration pioneer and genius visionary, Phil Nuytten.

source

Inventor of the JIM suit in the late 60s, then the Newt Suit (what most people picture when they think of atmospheric diving exoskeletons) as well as the Deep Worker line of one and two man utility submersibles, Phil Nuytten is perhaps the only man alive who is more obsessed with putting human beings in the ocean than I am.

source

The JIM suit realized a very old dream of divers: The ability to work at depth as long as they liked without fear of nitrogen dissolving into their blood, requiring lengthy decompression. As you can see it was a bit clunky, as expected for 1960s technology.

source

The JIM suit enjoyed a successful career, but was replaced by the Newt Suit in the 1990s (seen above). It too enjoyed extensive use by the oil and gas industry, as well as being the focus of a documentary about aquanauts and dolphins. There was also a grey Navy variant used for clandestine deep sea military operations.

source

Never content to rest on his laurels, Phil recently completed and deployed the next generation replacement for the Newt Suit: The Exosuit. Bigger, badder, cooler looking. It was utilized on a mission to explore a shipwreck where the Antikythera Mechanism was first located. Subsequent dives are also planned, in search of more pieces of this mysterious ancient machine.

source

Like the JIM Suit and Newt Suit before it, the Exosuit is a one atmosphere diving exoskeleton. It's like a submersible that you wear. This allows you to dive to depths of up to a thousand feet with no change to the pressure inside the suit. This means no decompression is needed.

source

The Newt Suit features lower resistance joints than prior models, allowing for easier, less strenuous movement. It has its own set of battery powered thrusters, and the diver is kept comfortable by internal heaters and air conditioners integrated into the rebreather.

source

Although currently standard pincers are used, Phil has been hard at work perfecting a new type of mechatronic hand for the exosuit with an opposable thumb and two fingers. It's a difficult engineering problem to solve as the mechanism must pass through the pressure hull without compromising it.

source

This is deep sea exploration in safety, comfort and style. What do you have to fear from sharks when you can punch them in the face with a mechatronic titanium fist? Greetings from land, motherfucker. Their ancestors used to eat ours for breakfast, so don't feel too bad.

source

The Exosuit, while more ergonomic and comfortable for divers, actually falls short of its predecessor in some ways. Both have 48+ hours of backup life support, but the Newt Suit can be used at twice the depth of the exosuit. It remains to be seen whether comfort will defeat utility considerations for organizations looking to buy a 1 atm diving solution.

As for Phil? He has his own ideas about the ideal use case for the Exosuit:

Truly a man after my own heart. That's all for now, stay tuned for subsequent installments.

Hi friend I saw that you are so adventurous. Some times with the robots and now in water world. The costumes are different from time to time. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful world and the working system. Have a great day friend happy steeming.

Would you like to see my bunghole?

Holy shit, Cornholio is still running strong, eh? I think you're the longest running novelty account I've seen on the site. Keep looking for TP, man. You'll find it someday among all of the bungholes.

Only to one day discover...that the TP was inside of himself all along.

Coming this summer...Starring Rob Schneider...The TP Within...Rated PG-13

Yes definitely friend I would like to visit.

We are stuck with technology when what we really want is just stuff that works

Nice, looking forward to more.
I'd be down to suit up in some Exosuits and gang up on some sharks with my boys. Maybe get swallowed by the giant squid and take a trip through it's digestive system. How does this thing hold up to giant squid bile?

After reading your post i realised that we need to get more deep information about the ocean. It's feel very interesting to read more from ocean. It's a very fascinating article. there are lots of more stories/talks need to be revealed about the ocean.
It is the best article i've read today. best of luck and have a good day

That is indeed a cool suit and it definitely will help some ,who wishes to explore the underwater more easily !

Damn this was fascinating. It was hard not to keep thinking about the Starcraft Marines, but seriously an entire world I haven't thought of much before. If all of our crypto works out, then I'm sure we'll see you in BeymanSuit with a futuristic application of your built in chest flashlights.

Huh. I had no idea Capt. James T. Kirk was also an aquanaut! Live and learn. He still orders the redshirts outside, though. Per the duty roster, of course.

Also that's Bob from ReBoot in the minisub. I think the artist just bought a megapack of budget 3D characters and chose the ones that looked the least out of place.

I like to think that's weed in the hydroponics module, that Kirk is tending to. "Sea weed" if you will.

I love the ocean and find absolutely fascinating :) Great post @alexbeyman, thanks for sharing this! Resteemed it!

Outstanding post. Good use of technology in ocean. Now deep sea exploration in safety, comfort and style. That's why life is safety then before. Thanks for sharing such a good post

Amazing journey it was, i never got a chance for sea diving, but i can imagine that how breathtaking feeling that will be because we will enter in the different world of under water, where we can see different type of beautiful architectures created the nature. Thanks for sharing.

Have a great day and stay blessed.

That thing is very cool. Also slightly concerning, but mostly cool.

Dude, holy shit. This exosuit is fucking sick, I would absolutely love to hop into one of these bad boys if it's ever available to me. The only thing that could make this cooler is if it had a gatling spear gun on one arm and a deploy-able sword on the other. Maybe that wouldn't be practical or even sane, but fuck that. I want them for those times where you don't just want to punch a shark with your titanium fist, but absolutely want to obliterate the motherfucker.

No kidding. It's diving with none of the downsides. You stay warm, dry and at sea level pressure even a thousand feet down.

If you ever become a millionaire, I request that you get one to review for us. Or, let me fly down to Oregon and come dick around inside of it while hunting manta rays or some shit. Can't let those fuckers get away with what they did to Steve Irwin!

Oh, you know it. Although I already have my sights set on a specific recreational sub, if I ever have that kind of money. Uboatworx makes the cheapest true 1atm personal subs at around $700k. That sounds exorbitant but remember, submersibles are hard to come by under a mil.

I mean, yeah, 700k for your own personal sub doesn't even sound like a bad deal at all. If you've got the money, fuck it, get whatever your heart desires at that point. I think that would be a dope acquisition, I'd probably head down into the depths for a few days out of each month if I owned one, lol.

Definitely would love to see the day where you could wrangle one though, bro. Hopefully that day isn't too far off the horizon :) In the mean time, we could always go down to the Trenton Tar Pits for some fun times, eh?

(Yes, I'm finding a way to bring ATHF into our conversations at any point possible.)

Hehe. It normally fits 3 people. But I was thinking I could remove the chairs and put in a beanbag. Some carpeting maybe, make it a cozy little fort and just hang out on the bottom. It looks like with only one person it'd be tolerably spacious:

Probs for what they charge I could have them custom build it for that purpose too. Maybe include a makeshift lavatory under a flap in the floor with a septic tank so I don't need to come up for that.

Oh, man. That sounds so glorious. I would fucking love to just sit in a comfy chair in that thing, sit at the bottom and listen to some music while watching the sea life around me. That septic tank idea is great though, I'd definitely want something like that as well. I thought having to drive down the street to the gas station to use the restroom was bad. Imagine having to travel up to the surface just to do your business. That would just be insanely annoying.

If I was gonna go all out, I could buy a used tourist sub and convert it to an undersea motor home:

They really look like underwater astronomers. And the last picture looks like a clip from future world. This is just so amazing. Human technology are just so awesome. I wish i could see the future of this.

This is just amazing, all they need is a glowing light in the middle of the chest piece ...

ALEX - I'm still curious how these people wear this heavy suite... I think it's easy to live in Space than deep ocean... With that metal suite... oh it's terrible :) Excellent article you shared...

+W+ [UpVoted & ReSteemed]

yes i am fascinated by the ocean but the deep sea terrifies me as well but again with costume you have shown here for scuba diving is giving that courage to take on the adventurism in ocean.

Great article great pics shared by @alexbeyman

steem on and stay blissful.

@alexbeyman,
Oh man what kind of hell is this :D Look at them, actually I feel funny :D Anyway it's a quite well innovation, but I hope they could at-least build a suite which is similar to space kit! This is crazy!

Cheers~

This would be so cool to dive in and explore the ocean bottom.

I don't see he advantage of an anthromophic 'suite'...why not a micro-sub...with tele-operated arms?

Nutco makes those as well:

But some jobs simply require a greater degree of dexterity:

Great one! I'd like to try this suit. It'll be too much fun.

you are really looks like adventuring things and you are getting the water diving now and it is really nice to see you in the depth of the sea

wonderful post
i like your post, thanks for sharing

I knew that Nouetteco had covered us. It is a deep sea explorer pioneer and giant visionary, company founded by Phil Nuytten. But I did not know much about them. Thank you so much for reading your post.

very cool, I really like it, is it real?

Yes, it's real.
