What is the value of ODIN?

in odin •  6 years ago  (edited)

This article has lots of useful tidbits about ODIN, highlights some questions plus hopefully gives a few answers along the way.
I will end with the honest values I give ODIN now, short and mid-term.

My dad has always told me that something is worth what someone is willing to pay you for it. This has served me well as a realistic measure in life so far.

What does ODIN have going for it?

ODIN has developers working hard on a Chat Dapp called ODIN.chat see https://ODIN.chat/ there are many unique privacy features such as you login with your wallet address rather than your telephone number. Its fully peer2peer encrypted plusyou can send ODIN coins via the messenger direct.

Being an ODIN holder allows you to earn coins through either staking straight from your wallet or running Masternodes. The current price of ODIN allows an affordable entry level at a sensible and competitive rate.
There is even a community lead Masternode site called M.A.S.H see https://mash.odinblockchain.org this service completes half the set up work of running a masternode for you at a cheaper than most hosting price.

Future developments, games, listing applications and legal requirements to future proof ODIN are all actively being worked towards by Community Leads and members.

How are cryptocurrencies given a value?

CoinMarketCap (CMC) and Coingecko price a coin by the last known price that it sold for. I know some people buy small amounts at the “Sell Order” to give an impression of a greater value, others intentionally sell small amounts to the lower “Buy Order”.

The Market Cap of a coin is defined as the circulating supply of coins multiplied by current price per coin. This, although probably the best measure, is completely flawed. If one coin sells for an all-time high, that price is put to all of the circulating coins. Which is incorrect and a dangerously misleading tool when valuing your hold of a coin.

Following my dad’s logic above,I would argue that the sale value of the total amount of coins you personally hold is what you can sell them for. Few trade sites have coins with such a high volume that the price wouldn't be driven down when a large, individual sell-to-market is activated taking out all the buy orders along the way.
All investors should only look to invest what they can afford to lose and be realistic of the actual sell potential along the way.

Reasons people buy ODIN

Belief and support of a technology.
A technology evangelist is a person who believes in a technology as being the [future] best method and wants to assist in promoting and shaping that ideal where possible.
Speculative Buying.
When people think an item is worth more or will be worth more than it currently is.
Investment.
The act of putting money, time, effort or other resources into something to make a profit or gain an advantage.

Successful coins have a good mixture of all buyer types. Raven, Verge and Nano coin communities are great examples of how good communities can assist with artwork, listings and endorsements.

The ODIN community is fantastic and continues to impress me, I know many ODIN users and holders invest their time to promote and assist where possible.

ODIN was worth zero, right?

ODIN was a free gift, airdropped to Obsidian holders at a generous weight. This causes it potential issues and advantages.

The issues are that it's harder to give a value to something that didn't directly cost anything, plus it is initially only known to its holders and the people who have sold it, giving low volume short-term. Advantages are that there is an immediate client base which believes in the technology and have held or accumulated across a bear market and testing times. Testament to this is the impressive amount of running MasterNodes.

Price Influences and Points that give Value

Prominent price influences of a cryptocurrency include:
The number of competing cryptocurrencies.
Comparisons to competing cryptocurrencies.
The supply of ODIN and market demand for it.
The exchanges it trades on.
Regulations governing its sale.
Its internal governance.

The main value for a cryptocurrency for me is being truly decentralised a decentralised blockchain means that it doesn’t have a single point of failure: there is no one computer system that can be switched off, censored, or otherwise blocked in order to stop its service this for me creates the best tool for a better future. What value is this worth?

What do I think it is Worth? And will be Worth?

ODIN’s circulating supply at the time of writing is approx 101 million coins and price to buy is $0.0071 or 0.00000067BTC (67 sats). Less than 1 cent per coin.

There are over 3000 cryptocurrencies in existence. A few that are a good comparisons are Phore, D.A.S.H and PIVX with similar models or coding.
Prices at the time of writing
Phore: $0.27 / 3041sats, supply of 17,733,724 coins
D.A.S.H: $160.33 / 1754993sats, supply of 18,900,000 coins
PIVX= $0.76 / 8419sats, supply of 56,781,166 coins

ODIN was to be listed on the trading site Cryptopia before the site ceased to exist; it is on five exchanges currently with new and further trade opportunities being worked on and unveiled all the time. ODIN community leads are actively working to continuously adhere to governing regulations which should, as time goes on, directly assist with CMC and Trade Site adoption.

ODIN’s current price gives an affordable entry level to Masternodes with a competitive ROI. The impressive internal governance and community leads, the innovative problem-solving technology, progress being made and the transparency within all of this compared to alternative coins leads me to conclude that, right now, a truer value of ODIN is:
Currently based on all the influencing factors above I price ODIN at 325 sats or $0.03 ;
Short-term, across 3-6 months with greater volume on trade sites and increased awareness, up to 550 sats or $0.05
Mid-Term, over 6-12 months with completed messenger, further dapps, progressions and adoption plus Bitcoin value increasing, a value of sats equivalent to $0.20.
Long-Term, 12 months plus, with strong partners inside and outside of the cryptoworld, active use cases and more, the value of ODIN could actually start reflecting its real worth.

How much ODIN and Crypto do I own?

After assessing thoroughly all the options available, I have chosen to hold by far the biggest portion of my portfolio in ODIN.
FYI my portfolio is 65% ODIN, 15% BTC, 5% LTC, 5% across ADA, BAT, IOTA and the final 10% is trading money.
