This is a video from Day 3 of going off-grid. I went 'off grid' five hundred and sixty-four days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and in time I hope that I can share more of them publicly. I have not made these videos public but I have been sharing them privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods. 'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. It has been quite the journey so far. @jacobpeacock
This is the first of my 'fireside' videos which I made at night as I try to relax by the fire and recap the day's events. I tended to go off on various tangents in all the 'fireside' videos so I eventually stopped making them because they tended to be lengthy, have too large of a file size for easy uploading with my 3G phone (plus limited cellular coverage) and I also eventually stopped having fires outside at night.
In this video I talk about almost crapping my pants again and accidentally throwing an unexploded ordnance into the fire and it exploding which resulted in the tent getting 'shot'. I also talk about finding a place in the creek that I formed a depression in and created a 'watering hole' without interfering with the creek's natural flow. I also talk about walking around the property and looking at where various black locust trees are growing and where dead ones are for use as building material and/or firewood. I also talk about finding an old concrete cistern and piping system up above me on the hill and the possibilities that presents. I also talk about finding the happy medium of pacing myself and the importance of relaxing after a long days work especially when living in less than 'ideal' conditions.
