Starting An Apple Orchard At The New Homestead

in off-grid •  7 years ago

I was given some apple trees but I had to help dig them out in order to get them. So Melanie and went on a long road trip.

We got three good apple trees and a fourth that may or may not live.

Two of the apple trees seem to be 5 to 9 years old and a third is 3 or 4 years old I think. The fourth tree was in the water and snails had eaten off most of the roots and some of the bark.

I stopped off to get some composted manure on the way home. Each tree gets a full 40 lb bag of manure in the hole.

At home I took a break before planting the trees. It took us about 6 hours round trip to get the trees but this includes digging time.

I also got Melanie some flowers to plant on our new homestead. There are three types of bulbs and she did a great job on planting them around the house and garden area.

I got the trees in the ground in our new orchard. This area will contain our fruit trees. Now we have a good start. The larger trees should bear fruit already this year if the roots take well enough.

The root balls were small and we got nearly the entire root system out of the ground due to a rock bed just a foot below the ground which kept the trees shallow.

I immediately got the electric fence up and running as well in order to protect my new apple orchard from deer. Deer love to nibble on apple tree shoots.

A package arrived in the mail containing a USB soldering iron. This is an interesting device which I never knew existed before. I cant wait to try this out on SMD devices.

Shouldn't you be out working on the homestead, or looking for some part-time work in the run up to Christmas?

More gifts in the mail. What a surprise. It's tough being self-sufficient!

DO NOT BELIEVE ANYTHING THIS GUY TELLS YOU.
MR REID IS AFTER ONE THING AND ONE THING ONLY, YOUR MONEY!
Don't be taken in by TR the monkey. Troy Reid, better known as TR, Trog, Leatherhead (because of his dirty stinking greasy old hat that he wears every place he goes even in the house) Turkey Head, Fruit Loops and more, is a full time ebegger, scammer and a fraud.
He has a band of dedicated goons on his YouTube channel that send him their money because he refuses to get a job.
His 100k subs on YouTube, I believe are mostly bought hence the reason for only 2 or 3 thousand views of his no content video.
I think what has amazed me the most since he has been on here is just how nasty he is, throwing random accusations at everyone because he can't delete their comment.
Trogs story of scanning and stupidity is a long one, he is the only YouTuber I know that has a superb dedicated sucks site, and it is definitely the best place to gen up on his evil doings.
Come on over, everyone is friendly, it's not the place Reid’s suckers make it out to be.

Do you have a video showing how many apples you harvested this fall? Those older trees should have produced quite a few apples unless they weren't transplanted right. I use a high quality vitamin B when transplanting fruit trees and watering generously.
BTW when you have a video stating one thing, why did you have all kinds of other things in this video! If I was on your channel I wouldn't be happy with your clickbait titles. It clearly states Starting An Apple Orchard.

We make videos of our daily lives. I try to label the video with the most prominent topic of the day. The apple orchard was the main topic. It is just not physically possible to fit all the words of everything we did in a day in the title alone. I try to sum up everything in the first sentence under the title.

In this way, in the search engine results, both the title and the first sentence shows up, telling people what the video is about.

Its the best I can do.

If you were on my channel, you would know this though since we show videos of our daily lives each day. Most people love what we show and we have tailored our videos to suit our viewers.

We had no apples at all due to a late season frost which killed all the blossoms (which were many). I had attempted to cover the trees which turned out to be a mess. The plastic sheeting was torn to bits by the high winds so the buds were exposed and froze anyway.

There is never a better time to plant a tree than today. Even if you're 95 years old, many generations will enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Oldcodge, You could worry about your own life and leave my family alone.
