Now that the finish is done and dry on our deck, I was finally able to pull out my rocket stove and propane burner so I can start doing my cooking and canning outside. I do plan to use the rocket stove for water bath canning to save on propane, but am still a bit nervous about pressure canning on it. I have seen others do it so I do want to try.
When Mr. Rain saw me pulling out the rocket stove, he decided to throw together a safer and more easy set up for me so I do not have to bend down so much to stoke the fire so this is what he did:
I am actually heating water for washing my dishes in that photo. I also previously cooked up a batch of my organic chocolate sauce on there for Mr. Rain. I will be putting that recipe up tomorrow, by the way. ;)
A couple of years ago, Patrick even fabricated this very cool, perfectly sized poker just for using with the rocket stove:
There will be more posts coming on my rocket stove as I get to doing more cooking and canning on it. O yeah, I also have some beef stew cooking in the solar oven! :D Just love that off grid cooking!

This is not a permanent set up, we plan to do something more someday, but I hear ya' there are always other things that must be established first. That is why it took us years go finally get chickens!
