Howdy Steemers

Through the years I have always been a break my back type labourer, no object to heavy, no ditch to big, no shit to smelly. As a lot of you know these are usually the thankless hero's of the site. A couple years back I said why am I living in a major city and getting paid 3rd world wages to make someone else rich? I said enough riggers are working more hours than me and getting paid big bucks. So I researched how to get in what I learned that got me in was safety tickets and determination was key. I looked at postings and found the common threads which was HS2 Alive, First Aid, and experience. First two easy enough but experience? For an entry level job? Catch 22 much. So I said this is not going to stop me, got my tickets and found 3 organizations that had the best equipment and reputations. I applied at all three emailed them a resume and a sweet joke ridden cover letter tailored to their mission statement. Waited 2 days nothing, a week goes by nothing, so I said I got nothing to lose so I called their recruitment office and acted pleasant and said what the hell did you not see my resume? Like I am ready to go here. One recruiter pulled up my email while on the phone with me, and we interviewed. I went did my drug test and physical passed all, did my online learning passed all good. Then I waited and nothing, so I called again and said what's going on? The reply was oh well you are in Vancouver and the jobs are based out of Edmonton and Alberta. So on December 23 I packed up my Truck and drove out to Edmonton slept in my truck until the 27 and the office was open and said I am here where am I working. The shock on their faces of this guy who spent Christmas in his truck for a chance in the oilfield was priceless and I got put on the Cadillac of rigs. I guess what I am saying here is take what you want don't wait for it.

I find myself in a similar situation now, I re-tooled my skills and got my first year electrician ticket and going to go back into the oil/gas and mining field and it looks like I may have to go back into the playbook and do it again. Wish me luck.
