After the British took control of Burma, King Thiba was imprisoned there. He was brought to Ratnagiri area of Maharashtra in India by the British so that he would not revolt in future and he would have no relations with the region. There is a beautiful carved wooden plank on the roof. In the vicinity of this palace, there is an idol of Lord Gautam Buddha brought by King Thiba from Burma. This idol was brought to India by King Thiba.
Bahadur Shah of East Delhi was sent by the British to Yagon in Burma to take part in the War of Independence of 1857. The Emperor died there.
Coincidentally, Lokmanya Tilak, who was born in the same Ratnagiri district, spent six years in Mandalay prison in Burma to keep him away from the national movement.
The Thiba Palace is a British-built palace at Ratnagiri to house the Thiba Min king of Burma (now Myanmar). It was built in 1910. Until 1916, the palace was inhabited by the King and Queen of Myanmar. The palace now houses a regional museum. Some of the things used by Thiba in this palace are still preserved.
