ON THE DOORSTEPS OF OLD AGE
you wake up at 2 am and can’t go back to sleep anymore so you watch concerts of Michael Buble to tire your eyes to no avail
you like listening to the songs of your time so your son gives you a headset so you can enjoy , without necessarily filling the house with your own brand of music
you keep telling the same stories to the same people who give the same reactions everytime, making you look like fools to an outside observer
you meet a friend whom you haven’t seen for many years and you notice how his face has shrunk and you suddenly realize he’s probably thinking of the same thing about you
you talk to your husband even when his back is turned , so he can not hear you and you end up murmuring to yourself
you realize how situations have turned around, whereas before, your children were bent on making your life miserable by insisting they go with you to the office, now , you find yourself begging them to please come home for christmas so you can watch them quarrel again over which channel to watch
when your favorite song is played, you suddenly grab your husband, (who was just innocently passing by on his way to the kitchen with a lemon in one hand and a cucumber in the other to make the usual lemon water); to dance with you , who is just as glad to give in to your silly request
when you can’t even finish a scientific lecture in its entirety because you are already sleepy at 8pm!
