The Traditional Olive Oil

Olive oil is the oil obtained from the olive fruit (Olea europaea), a traditional tree from the Mediterranean basin. Olive trees can grow up to 50 meters in their natural habitat and live for more than 500 years. This fruit has a fat round shape with a green color when unripe and turns yellow when it starts to ripen. Olive oil can be used for cooking, cosmetics, herbal medicine, and soaps, and also as a fuel for oil lamps. Olive oil has many health benefits because it contains high levels of unsaturated fats (mainly oleic acid and polyphenols). Extra virgin olive oil can be drunk directly, while non-virgin olive oil is usually used for frying. Freshly picked olives have a very strong bitter taste. So, to get rid of the bitter taste, it is usually soaked in a salt solution. Therefore olives are generally known as salty taste or referred to as pickles. The nutritional content of the two is no different. Usually, the benefits of this fruit are taken in the form of processed olive oil. However, it turns out that olives can not only be processed into oil, but can also be eaten directly.
