Dame Kelly Holmes Winning The Double Gold

Here below is a link to a great video of Dame Kelly Holmes winning double gold in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Personally, I care not a jot if someone is from the UK or Timbuctoo when they win a competition, but what I can and do admire is an individual’s hard work and skills.

Kelly was about 14 years old when she was sat at home in her parents council home, watching the Olympics on the TV screen. She sat there thinking that she could also win gold one day. You could call it a dream.

Kelly’s career was troubled by a series of unfortunate injuries and unwelcome illnesses. Much to Kelly’s obvious frustration, this meant she could never give it her best on race day, despite shining in training. But, one thing Kelly had on her side was her positive mental attitude which was tested, again and again.

She always dreamed. Always hoped. Always dedicated her time to training. Fast forward 20 years from the day that young girl was sitting in front of the TV screen with a dream, Kelly was now 34 years old. This is the year when the Olympics was held in Athens, it was a special year for the Olympics, with Athens being the home of the modern Olympics. It was at these games that Kelly actually won the double gold.

Kelly did not stop when she reached the top, nor was she in any of this for the glory. She is a great example of perseverance, Integrity and having the right mindset (state).

In her effort to inspire and help others, Kelly then used her fame and fortune to set up an academy to help others. Her academy boasts of training some of those who would go on to become the best runners in the world!
