Psalm 139 is a psalm dedicated to the omnipresence and omnipotence of God in the universe, and in the face of this truth, the psalmist tells us, the men who are limited and finite beings have to choose between two paths, the eternal path and the false path. It is interesting because the Sacred Scriptures tell us about an eternal path, a path that cannot change, a path that does not depend of our particular view (good and evil are not points of view), and that this path is the path that pleases the creator. And this path is the path that pleases God because this path is progressive, uplifting, expansive, cares for and increases life, our neighbor matters, this path is the path of the spiritual gift of righteousness ("Do unto others as you would have them do unto you", Matthew 7:12) as explains the Psalm 1, the Psalm of the two ways.
The Lord knows and judges the thoughts of man, God in his omniscience weighs the hearts from the eternity (the possession of all time, past, present and future), and nothing escapes to the divine judgment:
"You have searched me, LORD,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways" Psalm 139:1-3
Psalm 134 teaches us that God punishes those who follow the false path, the path of selfishness, but instead rewards those who follow the correct path, the eternal and constant path:
"If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive tendency in me,
and lead me in the eternal way." Psalm 139:19-24.
