πŸ“· OneBreathOnePhoto #11 - ONE photo of ONE moment on ONE breath of air

Hello dear Steemian friends! Welcome to the 11th episode of:

#OneBreathOnePhoto

As some of you may know, two of the things that I'm deeply passionate about besides travelling, is Freediving and Photography. Freediving is a practice of diving underwater without a tank or any other breathing apparatus, gliding through the watery abyss on a single breath of air with nothing but you and nature.

My aim for #onebreathonephoto is to showcase the beauty of this sport and the beauty of the ocean, as well as to brighten up your day by sharing some of my favourite photos taken over the years.

ONE photo at a time, of ONE moment in time, on ONE breath of air

Episode #11: Chased by Whales

Swimming with whales is like a game of cat and mouse. You spend the whole day looking for them and try to get as close as possible, but often they swim away cos they're not interested in you. When they are interested, however, the game changes completely where you become the mouse, terrified and scared shitless, but at the same time having the greatest time of your life :)

Wow! I have never been free diving but I'm passionate about photography. The photo is so beautiful and I guess it's a wonderful world under water!

Hi @kerlund74, thanks for stopping, I'm happy to hear that. The underwater world is truly amazing, and I really hope more people can see it. it's a big statement but Freediving has actually changed my life (it's really deep), and it also helped me find my passion for photography :) I highly recommend you give it a try!

Such huge creatures and so full of grace in the water.
Beautiful shot!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

They are indeed! Thank you for stopping by @ewkaw :)

They look friendly!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

At first they may seem scary cos of their sheer size, but actually they're one of the most gentle and kindest creatures in the sea, or maybe amongst all living species!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

The only creature that ever swimmed with me was a baby white shark... At first I was in denial, I couldn't believe the thing that was hitting my legs was a shark but then everyone started to scream around me... I must say, I learn you can run fast inside the water... I don't think it was gonna attack me, it spent like 3 minutes "playing" with my legs. Maybe that baby shark had a leg fetish or something πŸ˜…

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Hahah I heard sharks tend to nibble on humans more often than not, just out of curiosity with no intention of biting or eating. Apparently we don't taste good for them anyway, being too bony. Speaking of which, I'm sure there are a some that are quite horny too hahaha

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

I bet they enjoy scaring the hell out of people... wait, what? What did you just said? They are what?!... That would explain the leg fetish haaaa!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

I've heard that dolphins are quite the aggressive types, and some accounts of female divers (human) being sexually assaulted 😱

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

No, no, no! I can't believe such thing of those cute and lovely dolphins! They are nice and swim with people and touch you and.... PERVERT DOLPHINS!! So that's why they were touching me!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Dolphins likes to splash on purpose. Or should i say porpoise ? lol
I shall end it right here before things get out of control

Outstanding!

Thank you @davidgermano!

Wow..this is an amazing shot..Are those lumpy things on the whales barnacles? Btw, coincidence..I dreamt last night that I got swallowed by a big fish (like a mini whale), and my sisters were cutting me out of it..uggh

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Haha what a dream! Maybe it's worth researching what it means (though i dont think many people would have had similar dreams of being swallowed by a fish lol). Yeah those lumpy things are barnacles, it's actually quite tough and can leave a scratch on your wet suit if you aren't careful. Thanks for dropping by @foodie.warrior! you make me hungry!

haha yeah, I get the teeth falling out dream quite a bit and when I googled it was not a good sign..so far nothing bad happened (touch wood)..

Ouch that must be rather bad for the poor wet suit!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

I've had teeth falling dreams too! several times! And despite being an awful dream, If im not wrong with my googling it led me to believe that it meant we were going through a phase of development, overcoming something, achieving a new milestone etc so it was all pretty positive stuff :)

well, I certainly prefer your googling skills over mine :) Mine indicated that a someone close to us may pass away (touch wood!)...the positive stuff is far more attractive :))

Ya, I would be scared shitless to see a whale coming at me to eat me, you bet your ass because there's nothing you can do! haha, this reminds me of some of the thrill I feel when I am flying, the feeling of anything can happen and it can be deadly.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

The humpback whales look pretty gnarly, but they're apparently one of the most gentlest and kindest creatures in the sea, a big friendly giant of the seas!

That must feel incredible, this intense fear but a sense of calm coming from the humpback's call, quite a thrilling thought

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Speaking of which, i soometimes listen to an audio track of just whale noises, it's soothing! Might be an interesting mix while flying your heli :)

Wow what an amazing encounter!!! I bet I'd be scared shitless at first! I had a whale shark swimming right at me once, and it was amazing and terrifying at the same time! lol Their mouths are just so massive when they're that close!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Yeah I always feel that they would swallow me whole! I guess they could if they wanted to, isnt it amazing how they're so big yet eat the tiniest things like krill and planktons. so cute lol

Yes exactly! lol They are pretty amazing. But any wild animal can be a little frightening, especially one that big, and that close! I wouldn't want to be nudged by one, that's for sure!

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

I also find it amazing that these whales seems to have a good sense of awareness of it's body/fins and surroundings, they come so close to a point where it looks like it'll smack me, but dodge at the last second, as if they're playing with me or something. I really think they have more than just the two sets of eyes to sense stuff around.

Wonderful photo as usual. I swam next to some in the Philippines before. It's kind of a terrifying experience at first but it soon became amazing.

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

Thanks as always @rockjon, there must be so many awesome spots in the philippines for diving im jealous you're so close to it! I wonder if this feeling of being terrified at first, then amazing, could possibly be the same for meeting bull sharks or tigers, or even great whites lol

Oh my god, it looks amazing! Hope I can swim with whales someday too...

Β  Β· Β 7 years agoΒ

You can if you really want to! just gotta get to Tonga at the right time (like now), or even in the philippines, not too far from where you are right now :)

Yeah, actually I was quite close to whales when I visited Philippines, but couldn't visit them at that time... so hope for next time! :)
