Recent statistics has shown that there is over 500 different tribes and 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria, while most people are very much aware of the three major tribes in Nigeria; Hausa Igbo and Yoruba, there myriad of other that are yet in obscurity, the major, most populous and politically influential are: Hausa and the Fulani 29%, Yoruba 21%, Igbo (Ibo) 18%, Ijaw 10%, Kanuri 4%, Ibibio 3.5%, Tiv 2.5%..

Nigeria people who identify with each other based on common language, ancestral, social, cultural, or national experiences. Unlike most other social groups, ethnicity is primarily an inherited status. Membership of an ethnic group tends to be defined by a shared cultural heritage, ancestry, origin myth, history, homeland, language and/or dialect, symbolic systems such as religion, mythology and ritual, cuisine, dressing style, art, and physical appearance.

Hausa still remain the biggest tribe in Nigeria with10 state in Nigeria which includes; Bauchi, Borno, Niger,Taraba, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kastina, Kebbi, Sokoto with traces in several other parts of the country.

Yorubas is the second amongst other Nigeria tribes, "Yoruba" is most likely an adaptation of 'Yo ru ebo', meaning "will venerate (make offerings to the) Orisha" Yoruba people remains one of the most traveled and advanced people from Western part of Africa.

Igbos is the third largest tribe in Nigeria,they are the Nigeria industrialists.

Apart from the above mentioned three major tribes in Nigeria, there are about four hundred-plus other tribes like the Amo, Anaguta, Andoni, Angas, Fulani, dupe, Ibibio, Idoma, Ikwerre, Kalabari, Abou, Ijaw and several others
