One Song - One Theme Contest 5/23/2018: 2SBD to the winner

in onesongonetheme •  6 years ago

Welcome to a new week of the One Song - One Theme contest. Last week I didn't get the response that I was hoping for, so this week I am going to change the rules a little bit.

The concept is still the same:

I pick a theme and a song to go with that theme. You in turn pick a song that you feel goes with the theme I have chosen.

Here is where I am changing it up: Instead of writing a post about the song you pick, you can simply leave a comment with your song and why you feel it fits that theme.

On 5/29/2018 I will pick a winner. Upvoting this post is not required to enter the contest, but it is encouraged.

Hopefully, this round I will get some really great submissions. My goal with this contest is to introduce myself and others to new songs/bands that you may have not heard of before.

I am always excited to find and hear new music!

The theme for this round is: a song that changed your opinion of an artist.

Here is my song that I feel fits this theme:

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably heard the name Miley Cyrus at some point over the past decade. Miley aka Hannah Montanna kind of went a little crazy after her time on the Disney Channel.

She has since turned her act around a little bit and has left most of her wild twerking days behind her it seems. For the most part I was prone to care less about her or what obscene thing she was currently doing.

Then I found this Bob Dylan cover she did around 2012. This song and this version is absolutely one of my favorites. I frequently use it when I need to test a sound system at work. The way she connects with the song totally changed my outlook on her. In this video I was able to look past all of the crazy antics and see someone who deeply cared about music.

Maybe I am reading too much into it, but this song made me do a complete 180 on Miley Cyrus.

So what song made you change your mind about an artist? I look forward to reading/hearing your submissions!

This is a great initiative, can't help but join :)

I have to go with The Weeknd. Very popular the last few years but nothing stood out to me and I'm just generally not a big fan of mainstream pop music. But then this gem came out and his Michael Jackson like performance and the Daft Punk magic touch wowed me. Still love this song.

Thanks for the submission!

So I hope this week there will be many of Steemians will join LOL
I will come back with my entry asap. Good luck this time :)

Thanks me too!

About the song has turned me on

Hi, I am back with something exotic for you. It's not about who they are and how they changed me. Generally, this Vietnamese MV shifted my focus again back to my local music. You probably don't know our VPOP is full of terrible MVs or plagiarised ones copied from neighboring countries such as China, Korea...
But this MV is an unique and a special creaction from lyrics to well done production. When I checked around there are even few more that I missed because simply I didn't care much. But from now I started keeping a close eye to their improving progress.
And, probably you don't have to understand the lyrics because the MV will make you feel how it is about. And it's right! Women with their lack of equality in our society in general, not all but yeah , it happens. This youtube actually can translate the lyrics, if you are curious :)

Enjoy the song!

Great! Thanks for your submission!

With this song No Doutb showed the world its musical, artistic and sentimental quality. Many of us changed our lives with a song that touched the deepest fibers of our being.

Thanks for the submission, for me personally, I would have picked 'Underneath it All' for No Doubt. It's not about me though :)

Her songs, style and music are not my thing, I really have a problem to get into the tune, but the one I pasted really is THERE. I like to take the things to the next level and her work with this piece puts the harmony, thoughts, singing and disharmony to that next level. I truly like it.
I get that you will probably end up completely confused why and what on Earth that song is even about, then I suggest to try up some other songs of the same author. They are more sound-compliant.

I will for sure check it out! Thanks for the submission.

I will follow the contest you created @bozz and I think the song you can make the nomination is from evanescen entitled Bring Me to Life.
this song brought me to life is so sweet song for teenagers who are in turmoil coupled with a great collaboration between Amy Lee and Ben Mody. Moreover, the video clip, while in sleep Amy Lee hanging on the building and Ben trying to help. Although in the end Amy Lee fell, and experienced anxiety in her sleep.

Evanescence - Bring Me To Life

That was awesome. I have not heard that song of hers before. But I think I Adore You made me forgive her all her misdemeanor. 😂

My submission is Smile by Jay-Z featuring Gloria Carter. I picked this because despite Jay-Z smooth lyrics he mostly had the image of a hard gangster. Well here was he being honest about his mother's sexual orientation and that is not something lots of folks would accept. Besides his mother's spoken word poetry at the end was awesome. It really changed my opinions about. Truth be told, the album 4:44, changed a lot of my opinions about him, Jay-Z.

Awesome choice! Thanks for the submission.

Heya @bozz
I had to support this because I have also just started a contest centered around music and hope it picks up or I might have to nip it because I only have so much SBD to share haha 😊

When it comes to new pop songs, even if I liked it I wouldn’t really share it only because I feel like a sell out... I mean the charts are already doing a great job and they don’t need me to champion it ...
but here’s one I am more than happy to because listening to the song I feel his pain of trying to get over someone... so raw
It is Shawn Mendes’ In My Blood

Thanks for your submission! Yes, it has been a work in progress. I am trying to find a fit that works well for everyone involved. I hear you about not having a lot of SBD to give out. Maybe someday though!

All the best @bozz ... I will look out for the next one 😊

I don't have a song submission for you, but I can support this contest with an upvote.

Thank you!

The song speak volume about others thoughts about one personality and I think this made me come to a conclusion that we all are not perfect.
