This is my second post that is a series about my need to de-couple my revenue from my hours. I need a product or service or system that I can scale. I haven't gotten very far, but I have a plan, or at least the starting of a plan.

The Strategy

This is what I'm thinking. I need to build a series of assets that I can leverage and sell to an audience. When I was focused on my services business being competent at a lot of things over a very wide range of the project cycle was an asset. When putting together a story and value proposition for a product, this becomes less valuable.

I need to be laser focused on both who I'm serving and the problem that I am solving.

The Who

I have figured out my topic, its not something that I am truly passionate about, or something that I think is going to change the world, but it will save lives, so there's that. I already serve this market as a professional, but what I want to do now is serve the market by serving other professionals.

I can't target all professionals however, people like me have egos and don't want to think we aren't the best at what we do, instead I'm targeting the noobs. I'm targeting interns and people fresh out of school. I can get them farther ahead, faster and they can drag the old school guys along for the ride.

The What

There is a study and report that every one of my competitors does for similar commercial or industry clients, and the vast majority of these studies SUCK. So I'm going to serve my competitors. I want to provide them a course that helps them create better value for their clients. The systems that I have developed to do these reports allows me to be more expensive and still have more than enough work.

The When

Well, I have already completed some of the work, I held webinars over the years on this exact topic and give training to my clients when the purchase a study, so my plan is to launch it first thing in the New Year, 2020.

The goal

The goal is to build a product or series of products that allows me to scale. The financial goal is to build a business that has a revenue stream of $5k a month with less than 20hrs worked on average by April 2020.
