ONO Weekly Report: June 9–15, 2018

Not sure how I feel about the International authentication requiring a drivers license or passport for verification. That might be a deal breaker for me.

As far as I understand it, the identity verification is voluntary, meaning only people who want to do it will do it. People who get verified will have higher reputations, be able to vote in referendum, and will have higher rewards. But for people who want to remain anonymous, they can, their rewards will be lower however....this was the solution to robot accounts and the problem of people owning lots of accounts....I think no solution is perfect, but having it voluntary should be a good thing I think.

@onosocial I like that kind of verification. People are free to decide if they want to keep anonymous :D

Likewise, way too shady as well giving away passport information to a company for checking credentials. You can do better! So far is my only CONS point for ONO.

Same. Not only is it concerning to deliver those credentials, it's problematic for those who use an artist name for their work (like me) or have it changed for other reasons (gender dysphoria, protection from abusive exes, etc).

In the white paper, it says

The user going through identity certification will have more authorities, such as participating in the referendum and ecosystem building and so on.

So as per my understanding, it's not compulsory but I will have it confirmed and get back to you asap!

Yup, I confirmed. Users can use the ONO dapp without going through the identity authentication.

Awwwww, yes! That’s great news @ghulammujtaba! Thanks for the diligence. I’ve been excited about @onosocial for a while but I’m not about to give up sensitive personal information of that degree. So looking forward to the dApp release.
