Another Cloudy Day Warm Up Possible Thursday Gloomy Weekend

After a break yesterday in some (but not all) areas on Long Island where sunshine lasted for all of a few hours we are back in the clouds today thanks to an onshore flow and a warm front setting up to our south. While there has been some spotty light rain or drizzle scattered around today it is barely enough to make the ground wet. Nothing much is showing up on radars and we don't expect anything other than a passing shower tonight. The warm front will be advancing northward and there appears to be a fair chance that the front will pass through on Thursday. If it succeeds we could see some breaks of sunshine and warmer temperatures. Overnight temperatures will probably hold in the low to mid 50s.

Right now the National Weather Service forecast highs assume that the warm front DOESN'T get through. If it stalls out it will likely stop somewhere near New York City where the border of 70 degree readings will like. We might be able to push that a little further east into Suffolk County but that seems like a bit of stretch here. No frontal passage means lots of clouds again for much of the day.

I'm going to throw in the chance for a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow evening in case the warm front does get to our north and we manage a little daytime heating. Then it is back to an onshore flow Thursday night with another warm front situation on Friday which likely doesn't get through which means clouds all day again and highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. There could be a shower or thunderstorm Friday night as a cold front passes and then it is on to the weekend.

This frontal boundary buckling every other day seems endless at this point and another low heads our way for Saturday and Sunday. Rain should develop later Saturday and last through at least part of Sunday. We could see temperatures into the 60s before the rain arrives and then it is into the raw soup for Saturday night into Sunday afternoon with temperatures settling in the low to mid 50s and likely staying there. We could see improvement Monday with some sunshine but clouds could be back as early as Tuesday with more waves and more rounds of clouds and rain for the middle of next week. The pattern shows no signs of breaking down anytime soon so take advantage of whatever sun we see over the next week.ANY THANKS TO TROPICAL TIDBITS FOR THE USE OF MAPS

Please note that with regards to any tropical storms or hurricanes, should a storm be threatening, please consult your local National Weather Service office or your local government officials about what action you should be taking to protect life and property.
