LiveMed application LiveMe has removed 600,000 accounts from children under 13 in the last 60 days since the media revealed that pedophiles were using the service to exploit minors. The application, which has been downloaded more than 90 million times, shares the user's location and allows users to find who is broadcasting near them. An affiliate of Fox News in Los Angeles revealed in May that underage girls who use the service were regularly solicited by predators to perform sexual acts on camera.
According to the news agency, a girl was confronted by her mother after the police received reports that predators had ordered her to look at her current to pull her up and perform a sexual act. Police were alerted to the live stream by a group called Sheepdog Bloodhound, a group of volunteers from around the world who monitor LiveMe in an effort to try to report and prevent child exploitation.
The child had been online with a friend and inappropriate, showing up, showing his body, basically doing what predators had asked him to do. In most cases, we'll say 90 percent, families have no idea what their kids are doing now said Paul Irwin, Sheepdog Bloodhound's leader.
The minimum age to use LiveMe is 13, and the company says it hopes to remove all users under 13 in the next two months. The streaming service also implements a security program with 1,000 volunteers and indicates that it is working to improve its AI systems, which can help detect and report the exploitation of children.
