Open source is the future. Humanity can progress only by sharing all information to each other. Imagine if patents existed when fire was first made and process of making it was patented. Imagine if agriculture was patented. Humanity would never make it so far.

Video Editor, Resolve of Black Magic is a good and free alternative is not open source but is free. Blender has an integrated video editor too. I'm still looking for an alternative to After Effects, I found some alternatives but no are at the same level. Good post!
