Open space offices, loved by the youngest, detested by baby boomers

Where would people like to work? If you thought some Caribbean beach was the obvious answer you're far from the truth. Although smart work is widely used, most people would prefer to work in an open space. This is what emerges from a Savanta study commissioned by Poly, a company born from the Plantronics and Polycom merger.

The era in which workers dreamed of their private office remained confined to the films of Fantozzi: most (52 %) of Millennials and Generation Z members today prefer open spaces where they feel more productive and where they can easily switch from your desk to a sofa, a meeting table or any other corner of the company. On the contrary, people born between 1946 and 1964, Baby Boomers, concentrate more when sitting behind their desk, possibly isolated and silent from the others.

In part, it is also dictated by different habits, as the youngest spend much of their time entertaining telephone and non-telephone conversations. It's not all roses, of course, and even those who find themselves well in the midst of chaos admit that it's not always easy in the midst of confusion to perform their tasks. Virtually all respondents-9 out of 10 out of a sample of 5,150 people scattered throughout Europe, North America and Asia-admit that they have experienced frustration on more than one occasion because of the desk neighbor's "intrusive" talks.

The solution that is most appreciated? Wear headphones or earphones, possibly equipped with noise reduction, as well as special office areas where, if necessary, you can work more peacefully.

"If we consider the variety of different styles of work and the different generations brought together in one place, it is not surprising that almost all of them report being distracted at work,"-said Amy Barzdukas, CMO and Poly's Executive Vice President-" It is equally clear that the right mix of technology and environmental conditions can reduce distraction and improve production.
