Open Mic Week 39 - The New Light (Original Song)

in openmic •  7 years ago  (edited)

Here's a fairly dark song about a future I'm hoping against. Sorry about the fret noise in places - I hope you like it anyway!

The New Light
As we sleep we don't make a sound
Our dreams won't be found
Give us the courage to leave all our baggage behind
Give us the courage to work for the good of our kind

Holding hands in the moonlight
All might be fine in the new light that follows the storm

Even where predictions abound
The words can't be found
To give us the courage, to give us the will to survive
To give us the courage, should we have to fight for our lives

Holding hands in the moonlight
All might be fine in the new light that follows the storm

Finally had a chance to listen to this, I love the chords man. And the subject matter too, am I right that you were thinking about an apocalypse/society collapsing scenario? Amazing song, the dark, haunting melody really drives the thought home for da listener...
And by the way, do you have any idea why the value of posts keeps going down day by day? Neither Steem nor btc are losing value but my previously $500 post is now $375! >:(

Thanks, yeah it's that sort of thing I suppose. I never really think much about the lyrics though, better writers have described it better than I can, but they just seem to come through me, rather than me feeling like I'm consciously writing them. Is that the same for you, or quite different?

The reward distribution thing is a bit weird, and I keep trying to work out a good real world analogy. I think your 'Potential Payout' which is what's shown, assumes that nobody will vote for anything else across the whole platform until your payout is due, but of course they do, and so the difference between your higher total and the final payout has been shared with the people who received votes in the meantime. I think since the hardfork, the reward flow is faster, so the totals seem to rise and fall faster too. I'm not certain that's accurate though, and I still have a lot to learn about the technology.

I had the same problem on mine, @clintjunior! What's going on... I lost about $130.
Although I say "lost", I can't actually complain, I'm still being given nearly $300 for nothing... but yes the algorithm seems strange. Everytime someone upvotes my reward goes down.

Another intricately picked and finely crafted chord sequence, which to me, is at times as dark as the subject matter. Fine songwriting.

p.s. The fret noise is understandable and quite excusable in the circumstances!

Thanks ;)

awesome voice, and lovely playing! the song is incredible i am just blown back with openmic. wonderful work a top!!

Thanks a lot!

Nice guitar technique. There's a nice lilting Nick Drake vibe with some pleasing dissonance going on. Cheers man.

Thanks! I love Nick Drake's music.

Very interesting

I enjoyed the tune and the song. It had a nice dissonance to it.

Thanks very much for resteeming!

Marvelous, I love the arpeggios and lyrics. Am I the only one to not sing in this openmic week 39? =D

Thanks! Maybe @troilo, but I noticed you have a pretty special guitar technique!

The more I hear, the more I like. You write great songs Brother...good luck this week!

Thanks. I'm pleased about that, this one tends to get more varied responses.

I love the voicing!!! Nice chord structure!!!! Cool sound!!!!

Thanks very much!

Great finger picking. I love that dissonant chord you keep going back to. What is it?

Thanks man. I don't know much music theory at all, but the site jamplay.com says it's Em(#11) shape.

Thanks for looking that up for me! I might just have to put it in a song. :)

that was great man , nice performance , I will be glad if you would like to come and listen to my musics too. I followed you

Thanks man, I'll have a listen later!

Yet another fine composition Andy... My Bet's on you ! :)

Thanks for the support. I can only just play that one!

I like the technicality in the chords you chose to use and the subtleties as you glide between them, you obviously have a great theoretical understanding of the guitar. Sweet finger picking too.

Thanks a lot. Sometimes the glides aren't quite as subtle as I'd like them to be though ;)

love you
