Open Mic Week 72 **THE GNARLY WEEDS** original: "Bitch With Catterfly Wings"

We now interrupt your regularly scheduled feminist rant lima being deep post for a semi-prepared, angry feminist neo-soul tune!

Before you indulge in this somewhat NSFW jazzyfunktronic expedition, let use take you back....

...to the day that @jo-el and I met. (if you didn't see the post last week, he's my IRL bud)

It was a glorious day, BLUE SKYS even? While walking, joyfully, down Green Street, on a mission to acquire talent and friends for my planned Kenya excursion; I noticed a man carrying a humongous black object. A BASS. "Thats an upright bass!" I squeled in my mind. Okay maybe out loud. I love them. I awkwardly introduced myself told this guy with a glowing smile that I needed him for a project and we should exchange contacts. Of course, I could have been an axe murderer, but thankfully he took a chance. A few months later... in January he messaged me and we began jamming in his very cozy micro studio on aforementioned Green Street*. Something special about that street. Developers think so too but thats another story. Flashforward 2 years later, and we are good buds that have been through a lot but never actually got a band off the ground. But we just still enjoy making music together. I feel super blessed that I have such a friend and I am SOOO pumped that he's finally on steemit after me harrassing gently coaxing him for months on end.

Flash forward to Tuesday Feb 13, 2018...

We were supposed to meet and throw some cover tune together. But when I texted him I got this reply, "well i was taking a nap and I need to go to the store. I can call you when im done or maybe we can reschedule?"

"I'm at the downstairs door, dude. Put some pants on!" I texted with an evil grin.

I have keys to his building because we are now neighbors. ;) This guy saved me from homelessness and I really shouldn't feel bad that im living in this place cuz i could be living in the street. I digress, I walked up three floors to his door and meowed.

"are you meowing at my door?"

:D This is pretty much our friendship.

He gives me space to be me, I try really hard to do the same for him but also bang on his door to get him out of bed if he seems to need it.

Anyway, We went to the store and came back. Ok NOW WHAT?

Immediately he picks up the guitar and starts noodling on grooves. Hes a bass player to the core so his guitar playing is always straight groovy AF. I did a bunch of yesses and no's and forced him to loop so i could write lyrics.Of course went straight for my personal steemit drama. I can't help it.. this was on my mind and in my heart. Thats how the magic happens with us.

note: the song is vaguely my acceptance that in order to be both supportive and also fight against what I see as unjust or unfair or innapropriate---i kinda have to be a confusing jumble of bitch and butterfly. But obviously, catterfly is better. I'm here. I'm loud. I'm also soft. I'm just me. I wil try to take care of myself and yet i will also challenge myself, my friends and my team to reach higher, to be more just, and take zero shit while doing as little damage as possible.But knowing that its not always possible and I won't always be well-liked.
