Open Mic Week 38 - A Song for World Peace

in openmic •  7 years ago  (edited)

Composer & Original Rendition Credits: This song was composed by a Sage of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, India.

It was rendered at the United Nations on Oct. 23, 1966 on the occasion of the UN day, by Bharat Ratna Smt. M. S. Subbulakshmi and received a standing ovation.

The song's core meaning: The translation used in this song is not very accurate, but goes to explain the song's context. It is about appealing for friendship that conquers all hearts, for non-violence, and tolerance to live and let-live, requesting to eschew aggression among people of all the nations of the world and to forsake unhealthy competition, aspiring for universal peace, and showering blessings of prosperity for the whole mankind.

Open Mic week 38 Contest Entry:Here is my rendition of this song! Hope you like it...

Thanks to sponsors of this event. I would NOT be in steemit, if not for this contest 😀

For folks who understand Sanskrit, here is the exact lyrics:

जनको देवः सकलदयालुः
दाम्यत दत्त दयध्वं जनताः
श्रेयो भूयात् सकलजनानाम्।
