This is not good if true.
However, this might have been the best path possible, as they were running out of funding, and Microsoft acquiring them would probably result in a better situation than if they were bought by a company like Oracle.
I still do not support this, and am pretty mad about it.
It's just sad to see a company like this get bought out by a huge company.
I will not be moving from GitHub to Gitlab just yet though.
Why do you think that it's not good? From what I've heard so far, I'm hoping for integration with MS accounts so I can have a better time coding on Windows (i.e. connecting VS with my Github so I can edit projects a bit easier than current solutions)
I'm interested to hear what the cons are :)

One concern I have is with companies, like Google moving away from GitHub because it is now owned by Microsoft.
For what I think MS will actually do to ruin GitHub, I don't really know. It just is really worrying to see such a big company buy an independent company like this that most people think of as free and open.
I also don't know what is going to happen to Atom, the electron based text editor created by GitHub, as MS has an electron based editor of their own, VS code.
I guess most of my concerns are pretty ungrounded, but big tech companies buying out independents like this always makes me sad.

That's a fair point about Google, I also hope that other companies don't move away.
As for Atom/Electron/Github Desktop and all, I actively use these technologies and it doesn't sound like MS will be too invasive ("We are committed to being stewards of the GitHub community, which will retain its developer-first ethos, operate independently and remain an open platform." link to MS's post here). Anyway, here's to hoping that we won't get f***ed.
