Title : Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy

Author : Jaggi Vasudev

Genre : Spiritual and self-help book.

Honest short review : Fabulous, only for the introverted soul. Everybody else, you can go for Robin Sharma instead, because everything given here takes time and patience. In case you’re ready for that inner shift, then go for it.

Long review :

Well, I was planning to start the year with a biography, but then, this book caught my eye in the end of December last year and I decided to go ahead with it.

The book starts off with a walk into the past of the author, how he transformed himself from a guy with dreams and adventures, into a yogi and mystic. Exceptionally written. It’s not the typical serious tone which lulls you to sleep, but a fast paced journey through the path he walked.

Then it moved onto how the people in this world live and what kind of cosmic shift is required to live a peaceful life. Of course, you must be wondering that the same thing is found in all self help books, but this one is different. It gives a new perspective and tells you how you’ve been taking things in life for granted and what kind of attention you need to give in everyday life. Be it food, breathe, people, or inner voice. It talks about anger, pain, and vivid emotions, and how it impacts our everyday life unconsciously. Did give me those little sparks here and there. So yea, nicely depicted.

That was followed by a few chapters which gave exercises in the name of sadhanas, which could actually hep you find that feeble voice, if practiced well. Nevertheless, the importance of being present was also elaborated in a fascinating way.

Interested in connecting with the cosmos and feel the soul of the universe ? It’s there as well. Don’t ask me how, because I fumbled. It’s tough man. Takes time. But you can try.

Apart from being a regular self help book, it included some interesting stories which can catch your attention, and at times bring a smile. Yogic ideologies, adventures, meditation and what not. It’s a bundle for the mature soul or for someone who has time to apply all these and actually experiment whether the tiny tricks for a better life works out or not.

Good luck if you’re planning for this.

Quotes which moved me :

“The whole effort of the spiritual process is to break the boundaries you have drawn for yourself and experience the immensity that you are. The aim is to unshackle yourself from the limited identity you have forged, as a result of your own ignorance, and live the way the Creator made you—utterly blissful and infinitely responsible.”

“When pain, misery, or anger happen, it is time to look within you, not around you.”

Rating : 8/10.
