OPPO, a global leader in technology, announces its contribution to the successful development of the first 5G Standalone (SA) networks and the first segmentation services of the 5G SA network in collaboration with Vodafone and Ericsson, marking a historic moment in the construction of the 5G SA network in Europe, Majordroid has reported.
Used at Coventry University in the UK, the new network has been tested using OPPO 5G smartphones with Qualcomm Technologies and MediaTek 5G mobile platforms.
OPPO and Ericsson have worked with Qualcomm Technologies and MediaTek to develop software solutions for switching network segments based on OPPO Find X2 Pro and OPPO Reno3 5G smartphones so that users can easily switch between different network segments having the best experiences according to different needs. One segment was used for fast Internet access, while the other segment provided a dedicated connection for students and faculty members to have quick access to school resources and to conduct long-distance, low-latency teaching-learning activities.
According to the definition provided by 3GPP, within the framework for a number of standard organizations that develop protocols for mobile telecommunications, the 5G network is classified into two types: NSA (Non-Standalone) and SA (Standalone), where SA refers to an independent architecture of the network using 5G base stations, but also a 5G core network. The operators around the world are firmly advancing the development of the 5G SA network as it is considered to be the main 5G structure of the future.
5G network segmentation is a technology that separates the physical network into multiple virtualized end-to-end networks, which can be applied to the core 5G network architecture. Each network segment is independent and can have its own resources, so that 5G resources can be allocated and used more efficiently and flexibly to meet the needs of different usage scenarios according to different application characteristics.
5G SA and network segmentation technologies are the latest achievements of OPPO's 5G innovations, the company continuing to be one of the leaders in 5G through continuous investments in research and development. OPPO believes in a future of smart connectivity, and 5G is the basis of this vision. OPPO is also working closely with production chain partners to further develop 5G technology and improve the user experience, while working with operators and retailers to connect as many people as possible.
