I have been fortunate enough to visit the community of Orania 3 times now. People are very friendly, very Afrikaans and in their own way very creative. The Afrikaans community is like a olden day European settlement (but with new tech) and has a very relaxed feel to it. Situated smack bang in the middle of South Africa, this little town is worth visiting (if your not a Jo-burg fan). In contrast Jo-burg is noisy, fast and as criminal as it gets. Don't get me wrong, nothing will probably happen to you if a South African friend of yours pick you up from the airport and show you the beauty that SA has to offer. Wereas if you trust on those lingering in the airport, hasty to take your bags and ask you to get into their vehicle, they will take you were you need to go they say.....you may end up in a field somewhere stripped of everything, and if your alive, count yourself lucky. Downtown you can be attacked by people walking around with machetes concealed in their pants (how the heck they walk normally with them in their pants I don't know. Driving through outskirts of town you'll see interesting uneducated females sitting with their legs open in the bush. If your a man reading this and ever see one of these phenomenons, drive away very quickly for if you drive slowly and stare, they might think your bringing them business.....don't do foolish things like that...aids is a big thing among them.
Oh always count your change when you've bought something. And don't ...hey wait this is becoming a how to survive in SA post ..

Most towns in SA don't have a public pool any more, because of maintenance issues, oh you'll see the old buildings but don't go in to peek, it's probably full of guys wanting to sell you weed and such.. a few years back a man was stabbed just walking through the park next to the old public pool. I think you get the idea. In SA you have to be a pretty savvy tourist or be with a pretty savvy SA friend to survive.

Sigh, let's get back to Orania. That safe haven. Yes if you consider the rate at which it's growing you realize it has a-lot to offer, safety being key. Oh did I mention they are going to create their own Crypto, they say it will be linked to the Rand.

Orania has many places tourists can stay and lovely food and a river to go kayaking in and it's safe to go jogging at any hour (something that was safe to do years and years ago...but I can still remember.)

From all I hear about Europe, sounds like they need places like Orania too...to keep their culture and heritage from falling apart and to feel safe and be able to walk around at night or whenever for that matter.
