Blimey, it's a weird thing when you have to stop yourself evangelising about steem.

I sent an email to my accountant the other day, just checking the pros and cons of buying cryptocurrencies through my personal or organisational accounts. Finally, I had understood what to do after this great post by @phoenixwren, and I went off and did it. The whole thing took less than an hour, including validating my identity and convincing my bank that it was me and I did know what I was doing.

Anyway, I thought I would just check in with my accountant and make sure I was keeping the right records etc. His response was lovely, including "HMRC [Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs] haven't really got to grips with it". I found myself wanting to write back saying people are earning their living through this, people are being fed and learning new skills through this, blimey, ordinary people in ordinary jobs are buying guitars and financing trips to Portugal through this.

The disconnect was extraordinary. But I tried not to get overexcited 😎

Get excited! I talk to everyone about this shit lol

Excited is good. Overexcited, well, that's different!
What surprised me was the strength of my reaction. I'm thinking about doing a session in the autumn about steemit with the organisations I work with in London. I've just blown their minds with the Internet of Things, so maybe now is the time to catch them with the block chain and crypto-currencies.

I've heard of IoT. What is it?

It's where smart devices have sensors that gather information from the environment and share it with the internet and with other devices. One of the best examples is driverless cars which will be sensing information from the road/pavement/traffic lights etc and sharing it with the internet (and vice versa) so that it can navigate to where it is directed without bumping into things.
Common household items are Hive, Alexa and other personal assistants and Phillips dimmable lights, there are also smart meters and smart locks (not to mention smart fridges) and soon all these things will be able to communicate with each other (some already do).

Sweet, so that's one of the things I'm messing with. Got me a little echo Dot and some smart bulbs. I'm working on more cause smart home stuff is super cool!

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person in a 20 mile radius who actually knows what a crypto currency is. I would add to your list that blockchain is something that is supporting an explosion of creativity that will likely lead to the solving of all sorts of massive problems.

20 miles? Luxury! (apologies if the Monty Python/Yorkshiremen cultural references are too Brit specific)

I think there's a 40-mile cryptocurrency desert around me.
I agree, though, that there's huge creative potential for solving big problems.

I didn’t know that exact reference, but I grew up watching Monty Python on the telly. But we called at TV. :) I think seeing “the 100 yard dash for people with no sense of direction” still might be one of my greatest moments in life!

Hey, that's me!
