I would like to share a series of images we shot for a small, family-run organic farm in South Thailand. We shot these images over multiple days experimenting with early morning or late afternoon sun. The brief was to show the freedom and wonderful life that the animals on the farm lead and also to capture the magic of the farm in soft light. Many of the images were to be used for a website at a later date so they had to have some commercial credibility also.
The first shots were to capture the overall layout of the farm. The owners have built a very cool bamboo tower as the center-piece and I thought maybe putting the drone directly above the tower would show it in a different view than they were used to.
The next series of shots was about showing the relationship that the owner has with her animals. She raises chickens and goats. The goats for milk and cheese and the chickens for eggs. She also is followed everywhere by a lovely border collie named Wendy.
The farm grows purely organic vegetables and fruits that they then use either for their own consumption, to feed all the workers or also to sell to the general public. We shot some images of the garden crops and also some sample baskets of what you could expect to buy on a visit to the farm.
Later we wanted to document the cheese making process. This was a little more tricky because the area that the cheese is created was a sterile room with stainless steel and neon lights. It was in no way anything like the romantic environment of the farm. We added a couple of props though and made sure our "talent" was wearing the same outfit for continuity. I think they turned out pretty nice.
Then we did some kind of nice "product shots" of the different cheeses laid out on a cheese board with some herbs and flowers as nice props.
With the exception of the drone images at the start all the shots were on our NIKON D810. A variety of prime lenses were used but my fave lens is an 80mm. None of the images above have been edited or graded. The meta data is still embedded on each image so feel free to inspect for focal length, shutter speed etc etc.
