View of the Oribi Gorge
The Oribi. One of 29 Antelope Species found in South Africa.
It has a rather scattered distribution in South Africa and in many places where was reported as rather common, it has become locally extinct.
We have spent many hours game viewing in many different Game Reserves and have never been rewarded with a sight of an Oribi until we visited the Private Lake Eland Nature Reserve in the Oribi Gorge in Kwazulu Natal South Africa.
Here we were rewarded with stunning views of the gorge and we spotted a number of these beautiful Antelope.
The Oribi ( Ourebia ourebi)
When it runs it has a characteristic rocking action similar to that of a rocking horse. A smallish but very fast antelope.

Yes we were lucky to get this photo of it laying down. It did run away, that is when we saw the " rocking horse " run it has.

The Gorge looks breathtaking.
These are one of the benefits of having game reserves.
I'd visit a game reserve if I could, and I'll probably visit South Africa sometime in the future.
I just might pay a visit to the Oribi Gorge.

It is well worth the visit. I've lived in South Africa since December 1983 and this was my first visit to the Oribi Gorge. If I'm ever back that way, I'll definitely visit again.
