One of the benefits of living Upcountry is that you can see the West Maui Mountains, and all the way to both north and south shores. Normally the West Maui Mountains hang passively in the background of any trip outside the front door. But every once in awhile a day will come along where the air completely clears and the mountains become so crisply etched in the view that they seem to move forward by some miles. Details emerge that are normally hidden behind a vale of vog. Colors deepen and waves can be seen breaking along the shoreline. The visual cues from the lower elevation make it difficult to stay Upcountry. We call this phenomenon a Beach Day.
