EXT. CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND BEACH - LATER

The sound of the water lapping on the shore, Boston sitting
on beach, staring out over lake, backpack beside him.

A motorcycle engine noise grows louder, getting closer.
Suddenly, bright column of light illuminates Boston and beach
to the water. Engine's shut down, light goes out. Boston sits
motionless in the moonlight. Charlie approaches.

                          CHARLIE
                Hi.

      No response. Charlie waits...

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
                Can we talk?

                          BOSTON
                I don't know. Can we?

      Charlie hesitates, fearful. Boston's sad.

                          CHARLIE
                Can I take seat?

No response. Charlie waits again for a moment, slowly
approaches, sits with backpack between them. The moonlight.
      Charlie small talks.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
Beautiful. The light on the water.

      Charlie sits enjoying the view.

A bit chilly, damp. But the sun will
be up soon. A new day.

Nothing from Boston, Charlie waits, expecting the worse.

                          BOSTON
                Why did you lie?

                          CHARLIE
                I was scared.

                          BOSTON
                Fuck you!

      Charlie's fearful.

                          CHARLIE
I wanted you to like me, but I was
afraid you wouldn't if I told you
                the...
                     (beat)
Look, I just couldn't tell you.

      Boston turns away.

                          BOSTON
Yes you could. You're not making
                sense!

                          CHARLIE
                     (Desperate)
I'm trying to get us past this.

Charlie's paralyzed with fear, looking out over the water.

                          BOSTON
                I want to believe you!

                          CHARLIE
                     (Desperate)
                Then, why can't you?

                          BOSTON
                     (Sobbing)
Cause everyone I loved lied to me...
                threw me away.

A difficult moment. Boston, looks at Charlie, disgusted.

                          BOSTON (CONT'D)
I thought you were different. Felt
                safe, hoping.
                     (beat)
                And now... you're the same.

Boston holds back tears, spills his guts.

                          BOSTON (CONT'D)
I know it now. I'm damaged goods,
Charlie. No one can love me.

                          CHARLIE
                No! You're not.

                          BOSTON
                I'm pathetic.

      Sarcastically smiling.

                          BOSTON (CONT'D)
And right now, whining about how
pathetic I am, is more pathetic.

                          CHARLIE
No! you've got it all wrong and it's
                my fault!

Charlie gets choked up. Tears are in his eyes.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
Boston, I need to set things right.
Something I should have done long
ago. But for the wrong reasons I
                didn't.

Needs a moment to collect himself. Boston listening unmoved,
      just another lie.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
                And now something's happened. Like
having a gun put to your head. So,
I've lost the chance to do this for
the right reasons... but I have to do
it regardless. I know that now.

A moment to overcome the fear.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
I was told four months ago my time
                was running out.

      Charlie loses it.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
                Boston, I'm dying.

Hits Boston hard, immediately in denial. He gets angry,
      emotional.

                          BOSTON
                I don't believe you!

                          CHARLIE
You have to. There's so little time
                left.

      Boston, resigned to truth.

                          BOSTON
                Oh my God!

Charlie's looking for a way to continue.

As it sinks in, Boston desperately reaches for the backpack,
pulls out the little Teddy Bear. He stares at it holding it
      closely, holding back his tears.

                          BOSTON
Mom said when I was baby, an Angel
gave him to me, to protect me until
                he comes back for me.

      Charlie sobs.

                          CHARLIE
                     (warmly)
                Your Mom said that?

Boston nods yes, hands the Bear to Charlie, Boston breaks
      down.

                          BOSTON
Maybe he can protect you now.
                     (Beat)
                He's all I have Charlie.
                     (Beat)
I don't know what else I can do.

                          CHARLIE
                Boston, there's nothing anyone can
                do.

Charlie stares at the bear in his hands, suddenly relieved
      and overjoyed.

                          CHARLIE (CONT'D)
And 'Pete' here... he's more than I
                deserve.

Charlie holds out 'Pete' to give him back. Boston is
breathless, slowly filling with joy, looking for
      confirmation.

Charlie nods his head slowly. There's an overwhelming moment.
Boston embraces Charlie wholeheartedly, arms holding each
other tightly, 'Pete' still in Charlie's hand, father and son
sobbing with joy and sadness intermingled.

EXT. FRONT ENTRANCE, ROCK VENUE - NIGHT

Fans are streaming into an arena music venue.

INT. GREEN ROOM ROCK VENUE - MOMENTS LATER

Boston pushes the door open, enters, reaches for his
backpack, pulls out 'Pete', sits him on the dressing table
beside framed picture of him and his Dad, father and son,
grinning from ear to ear. Boston's eyes well up.

Stage Manager taps on open door. Boston looks up.

                          STAGE MANAGER
                Everyone's in position. You're on
                in... two minutes.

      Stage Manager winks and smiles.

                          BOSTON
                     (Smiling)
                Thanks!

Stage Manager exits. Boston sits for a moment, addresses
      picture.

                          BOSTON (CONT'D)
                Hey Pop?
                     (With excitement)
                Let's go fishing!

      Boston exits.

MEDIUM CLOSE UP: PICTURE AND TEDDY BEAR

Audience noise fades in, excitement in the air.

                                                           CUT TO:

      INT. ARENA - CONTINUOUS

      WIDE: ON ARENA STAGE

Mics, equipment and drums are set up on stage. Audience noise
continues, house lights dim, audience excitement increases.
      House is under black.

Suddenly, Boston's band begins, high energy "Get Off" written
by Dan atStarLite playing under black.

On vocals, spot lights on, trained on Boston, playing and
singing out front, bounce lighting only on the band.

Suddenly, on first refrain, one spot light hits lone back-up
singer, just upstage, stage left of Boston.

It's Charlie... standing with the help of his cane, singing
into his mic like he's never sung before.

      After first chorus...

MEDIUM CLOSE UP: FREEZE FRAME ON CHARLIE

A moment of superb enjoyment, the perfect send off.

Music and singing continues over freeze frame.

      Credits roll.

                                                               END
