The harms that fake drugs can cause in our society and lives cannot be overemphasized. According to statistics, over 300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand) people has been, in one way or the other, victims either by death or other forms of health disorder. Taking fake drugs is like driving a car that is supposed to been driven by fuel with water – it will not last long.
Counterfeit drugs has been in the system; caused by many factors ranging from selfish motives of those producing (profit driven) to the end users, who could not afford the original drugs due to their cost. Due to the ease of how people access information and ordered for drugs even at their own bedrooms, most consumers no longer take proper diagnosis before medications, leading to self-medication. There are a lot of reasons counterfeit medications are often spoken about in the industry, and why much effort is put on to fight against it. The expansion of our global economy has created geographically diverse supply chains around the world. Counterfeit operations do occur from the stage of manufacturing, packaging, labeling and distribution.
The risks of counterfeit medications remain a major global concern. Threat to patient safety and public health, makes counterfeit medications one of the most dreaded leech in the medical industry today. FarmaTrust is one of “the most efficient global tracking systems which provides security to the pharmaceutical companies, governments, regulators and the public, that counterfeit drugs do not enter the supply chain.” Their “Blockchain based system utilizes Artificial Intelligence and big data analysis to provide the pharmaceutical industry with value added services which allow for more efficient processes and methods as well as a more transparent supply chain”. Below is the structure of their blockchain:
At stages of the chain, measures are taken to always check the genuineness of the drugs that is being distributed to consumers of such drugs. By so doing, with the help of advance technology that has been employed in the blockchain, counterfeit drugs can be sure to meet their extinction. I believe, FarmaTrust has come to give us a society were counterfeiting will be a thing of the past.
