I always cheer for the less likely to win, unless it is my favorite team that is more likely to win. That is why I was cheering for Liverpool in the match against Manchester City yesterday, and that is why I was hoping that "The Holdovers" and other movies would win some Oscar statues, and not just Barbie and Oppenheimer.
Well, Barbie didn't win a lot of statues, besides for the best song with Billie Eilish. But, Oppenheimer didn't hold back, so the movie ended up winning seven statues. And yes, that is kind of boring. Not only because I cheered for many others, but also because I felt like Oppenheimer was a kind of boring movie that is typically a movie made to win a lot of Oscars. Of course, it is awesome if you want to see a historical movie made by a fantastic director, but still... most people didn't know much about Robert Oppenheimer before the movie, and thus, this was more of a "branch" movie that didn't reach the masses. That is why Barbie was the most seen movie in cinemas worldwide, because it reached the masses.
Of course, the Academy Awards isn't about reaching the masses, it is about rewarding the best accomplishments. And yes, Oppenheimer was a great movie with awesome actors and actresses, and lots of fantastic effects, but still... it would have been fun to see more people from other productions win more prices.
