Questionable Expertise, What The Hacker Group Do To Vevo

OurMine hacking group has been entering corporate networks and social accounts for years, but when they gained access to the Vevo servers, the company managed to provoke something worse.

According to a screenshot distributed by OurMine, the group contacted Vevo's representative early in the morning with news of the compromise, but they got dirty words and distrust.

In response, OurMine posted 3.1 terabytes of data from the Vevo server, a leak that was first reported by Gizmodo. Accessible from OurMine's website, the data includes Vevo's personal files in 90 different artists, including Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, One Direction, and U2.

Other documents include social strategy memos and instructions for disabling office alarm systems. OurMine insists they will delete the data if contacted by Vevo representatives and they seem to have saved their words.

Then, the data suddenly disappears from the site. New message explained, 'We deleted the file because of request from Vevo'. Attempts to access the data redirected to the Vevo Box brand login page.

OurMine did not explain how they got data access, but in a statement for Variety, Vevo linked the compromise with phishing attacks via LinkedIn.

Vevo joins a long series of companies compromised by OurMine, who typically use high-profit targets to attract legitimate security products.

Last month, OurMine successfully compromised WikiLeaks sites and various HBO social media accounts. Previous targets include Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and Jack Dorsey.
