If you think Tianyi Pavilion is just a pavilion, you are very wrong, Tianyi Pavilion is the oldest library in Asia; if you think Tianyi Pavilion is just a library, you are wrong again, Tianyi Pavilion is a fine Jiangnan garden; if you think Tianyi Pavilion is just a garden, you are still wrong, Tianyi Pavilion and Yuehu Scenic Area is a 5A scenic spot, which is the symbol of Ningbo city. To the Tianyi Pavilion, not only can learn about the ancient book collection culture, enjoy the beauty of the Jiangnan garden, you can also visit the exquisite Zhejiang East Ancestral Hall, there is even a mahjong display hall, what? I also came to know that the original origin of this "national" mahjong, one of them said that the Ningbo Chen clan next to the Tianyi Pavilion was invented.
First of all, let's learn about Tianyi Pavilion. Simply put, it is a national key cultural relics protection unit, a national key protection unit for ancient books, the oldest surviving book collection in China, the oldest surviving library in Asia, and one of the three oldest surviving family libraries in the world.

On a rainy day, I went to Tianyi Pavilion to visit downtown Ningbo, and if I could only choose one place, it would be Tianyi Pavilion.
2.jpg
Tianyi Pavilion is located on the west side of Yuehu Lake. Tianyi Pavilion and Yuehu Lake are 5A scenic spots, and the entrance fee for Tianyi Pavilion is 30 RMB, while Yuehu Lake is free.

The founder of Tianyi Pavilion is called Fan Qin, the official to the Ministry of the right minister, after resigning from the government to return to his hometown, in the Ming Jiajing forty to forty-five years (AD 1561-1566) in the east of the house to build a book collection, named "Tianyi Pavilion", when the collection of more than 70,000 volumes.
4.jpg
The residence and the library were separated by a high wall to protect the safety of the book collection.
5.jpg
The Qilin pattern on the wall is an ancient divine animal representing good fortune and prosperity, mostly used in folk crafts, with a status equivalent to the dragon in the imperial palace. Generally, families in high positions can only paint the Qilin on the wall.
6.jpg
The collection of books in Tianyi Pavilion is very rich, with nearly 300,000 volumes of various ancient books, among which there are mostly historical books such as local chronicles and enrolment records, and more than 80,000 volumes of rare and good books and the climate in eastern Zhejiang is humid, so when the weather is good, the books are often dried.
7.jpg
Due to the previous books in the Tianyi Pavilion collection, some of them are even isolated books in the sea, so they are often hit by people in history, and there was a very bad case of book theft from the roof during the Republic of China, which caused serious damage.
8.jpg
Many people will have questions, that is, the Tianyi Pavilion now there is still a collection of books, can see, Tianyi Pavilion is an attraction, also has a collection of books, constant temperature and humidity inside, visitors can see.
9.jpg
But I think the collections should still be mainly for display, and the vast majority of the collections should be relegated to other libraries.

Bao shu Lou, or Tianyi Pavilion Collection Building, is a brick structure with a hard hilltop and heavy building, facing south, with an area of about 26,000 square meters and a height of 8.5 meters. The house, which does not look too impressive, is the place where Tianyi Pavilion used to collect books, but now there are no more books inside.
11.jpg
The Zunjing Pavilion behind Tianyi Pavilion was originally located in Ningbo Prefecture School, built during the Guangxu period, and was moved into Tianyi Pavilion during the reconstruction of Tianyi Pavilion in the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935).
12.jpg
Today, Tianyi Pavilion has not only a few old houses but also a garden with lush vegetation, which is called East Garden because it is located in the southeast of Tianyi Pavilion.
13.jpg
The East Garden covers an area of about 6,000 square meters. Since 1959, the land was levelled, bamboo and trees were planted, and the stone pavilion, iron ox, and stone tiger were moved here, and the garden took shape.
14.jpg
In 1974, 69 monuments collected were embedded in the wall, and in 1982, the East Garden was expanded by digging soil into a pond, piling soil into a hill, building a corridor around the garden, and moving two buildings of the late Qing Dynasty.
15.jpg
So you can see a lot of ancient buildings in Tianyi Pavilion that do not belong to Tianyi Pavilion, most of them are relocated from other areas in Ningbo, which is also a kind of off-site protection for the monuments.
16.jpg
After seeing the Tianyi Pavilion and its gardens, don't miss the two ancestral halls next to the East Garden, one is called Qin's Branch Ancestral Hall, which was built in 1923-1925.
17.jpg
The unique Zhujin wood carving is a traditional craft with a long history in Ningbo, and the carving of the Qin ancestral shrine is a masterpiece of Zhujin wood carving.
18.jpg
But the main attraction of the Qin Ancestral Hall is the theatre stage with the flying eaves and corners, which is the most magnificent part of the whole building.
19.jpg
The algae well on the stage of the Qin Ancestral Hall is ingeniously designed and crafted, with 16 geometric curves made up of arches and flower plates, which are circling up to the top of the dome and covered with "bright mirrors" in the middle, so that it is like stepping into a wonderful realm.
20.jpg
Next to the Qin Ancestral Hall, there is also a Chen Ancestral Hall, which is now the "Mahjong Origin Exhibition Hall". The Ancestral Hall was originally the ancestral hall of the family of the inventor of mahjong, Chen Yumen (the word Zhengyao).
21.jpg
Chen Yumen, a native of Ningbo, played mahjong with dignitaries (including foreigners) for fun in the late Qing Dynasty, but later felt that there were many inconveniences in mahjong, so he changed it to bamboo bones in 1864, and improved the content of mahjong, thus forming a new card game, mahjong.
22.jpg
So, you have played mahjong for so many years, do not necessarily know that the original mahjong originated in Ningbo, really not originated in Sichuan? This is a water marsh characters mahjong, a bit of character, right?
23.jpg
It is said that the word "mahjong" is derived from the Ningbo dialect "mahjong", and "and", "stop", "Xianggong", "mahjong". It is said that the word "mahjong" is derived from the Ningbo dialect of "mahjong", and the terms "and", "stop", "Xiang Gong", "rub" and other terms used on the mahjong table are also evolved from the Ningbo dialect. This is a picture of American mahjong, did not know that mahjong has actually broken out of Asia, right?
Tianyi Pavilion, Ningbo in the downtown area of a pure land, blue water stacked rocks, just like heaven; bamboo and camphor, with the wind; pavilions and pavilions, simple and spacious; book garden elegant, complementary, it is "ten thousand volumes of poetry and books to about, allow me to hide a good garden", Ningbo is a famous Chinese historical and cultural city, there are many historical monuments, but the most representative of Ningbo history Ningbo is a famous Chinese historical and cultural city, there are many historical monuments, but perhaps the most representative of Ningbo's history and culture, is the Moon Lake and Tianyi Pavilion.
