A surprising outcome and a rewarding match during Overwatch Season 5 (PC)

Hey all, Kemosabe again.
Just wanted to share a (probably too long) account of one of my Overwatch Season 5 placement matches. It's not everyday you have two healers on your team that don't heal, and you still manage to win. Anyway, here is what happened in the game. Typically wouldn't have so much to say, but the outcome was surprising and rewarding!

When I first matched up with the team I saw these two guys with their usernames "GENJI" and "HANZO" and so I thought they were going to choose Genji and Hanzo respectively. For those that don’t play overwatch, these are two of the least liked characters in the game (mostly Hanzo, genji can be one of the best if played well). In the backstory of Overwatch, they are actually brothers.

They were the last ones to pick, and the player named “HANZO” who was playing as Mercy, a healer/support character, began the match saying, “I’m going full on attack mercy, don’t expect any healing. No healing at all. Do NOT expect healing from me. Soldier you should stick by the tanks and heal because I’m going full attack mercy.”

As far as the guy named “GENJI” was concerned, he was a “speed-boost only Lucio”. Lucio has the ability to speed up characters in the area around him, or to heal them depending on which song he is playing as he is a DJ in the backstory. This was the case on both offense and defense.

Now I don’t normally play as Soldier:76 because I use an old and beaten up gaming laptop so the visual quality of gameplay is poor. Meaning I’m competing with people who can utilize visual quality to enhance their aiming skills much more easily and can react more accurately. Lately I'm starting to think I can at least do some DPS that a lot of the other players can't, despite the equipment. My settings are all low, or off if possible, and i typically use a 75% or 89% (automatic setting) of render scale. This helps my average frame rate to be about 70, I’ve been seeing lately, so it isn’t all that bad. (I posted pictures of the laptop I use to game here)

At the end of the game (below) you can see my stats. I had gold medals for eliminations, damage, healing (because the two healers finished the game with 20 healing points done by Lucio and 10 healing points done by mercy) and objective kills, while being on fire for the majority of the match. Most of the time medals are really only a relative measure in overwatch so it doesn’t say much but it makes me feel better about myself.

I really was just surprised to see that we ended up rolling these guys, with the score ending in a 3-0 victory for us. These guys named hanzo and genji were teamed up together during their placement matches of season 5 on some smurf accounts and I think just wanted to tilt the team, thinking they were funny. It made it sound like they were gonna lose 10-10 of their placements and this was the last one. Where is the fun in that? Any overwatch player going in to this would understand it was expected to be a thrown game from the start and an annoyance at best.

Who knows, I guess the mercy gun really is underrated. Most players who use mercy don’t ever really even pull her gun out. It wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t even know she had a secondary gun because she is so focused on healing/damage boosting with her primary instrument. (Interestingly enough I found out during this match even with her gun out she can use her fly-to-teammates ability still)

Anyways, that was just a match I didn't plan on being so enjoyable, but ended up being rewarding. I always like a good accomplishment, so I felt like sharing about. Typically this type of non-teamwork behavior is my least favorite part about some of these overwatch players, this time it just so happened to work for us.

Very nice, So far this season is going bad for me, i have had many people who play bad characters and or refuse to switch when we need more healers or tanks, but overall overwatch is a very enjoyable game and i recommend playing it!
